It is something we will have to take into account. Maybe have the uprated ships as a seperate download pack, sort of like the 1024 x 768 textures?

i don't particularly like messing with fighters, but would quite like to help out with cap ships of any species.
as for the death of 8meg card users, my TNT2 apparently doesn't like HT&L at all, so i'm upgrading, but i think the benifits FAR outweigh those probs in this case. :D i can't wait for HT&L
the poly limit is the most annoying prob i've got left in FS now that the clipping stuffs been fixed. and if the limit gets completely blown away by HT&L, as it looks very much like it will be, then i can see FS modding becomming much more interesting than ever before.
and i don't think i just speak for myself when i say that with this implimented, combined with the awesome graphics enhancements the SCP is churning out, i don't think i'll be able to move off FS for a very long time. :D
so just assign me a ship and i'll see what i can do on it asap :)

I hate the idea of docking potential new features simply because older cards won't handle them. But then I am something of a high-end owner :cool:

Something Texture & Lighting / something Transform & Lighting. Can't remember the exact wossname. Basically graphically spiffy bits that will make FS look sweeeet. All to do with shadows and lights and stuff.

you do realize that if we only do some of the ships and not every last one, the older ones will look really bad next to the new ones, right?

First, it is to upgrade EVERY ship... I'm sure that ppl will make awesome high-poly modelsin the future for FS, and I'm sure no-one wants that the original FS ones to be downgraded...
This effort is not just to increase poly number of ships, but to use those extra polys acordingly (ex: make the Orion hull a bit rounded on the edges, so that it isn't perfectly boxed, add window ports, other kind of details to it, and better turrets...), to make state of the art glow and shining textures, add glow points and other stuff... basically, make the FS ships more complex...
About textures, excluding those mentioned above, I don't think we will have too much work if we do things right, because we can use the original ones and then add some new texes for certain special details...
BTW, does anyone is able to make glow and/or shining maps??
Ok, I get the picture that many of the community want to go through with this, but I'll wait a bit longer (its just been over a day now...), and then if everything stays as it is, I'll contact the Admins of HLP for their support. Also, I think I would need a hand at coordinating this project, because I don't think I'm a good project leader, and I need a more experienced person to help me out (and BTW, I can learn a bit for CIM)... IceFire, you interested?? I can't think of a better person for this task :) Not offending other Leaders, but you know... Ice is Ice :nod:

I can glowmap a bit, but I can't upload it. I've got glowmaps of my Apollo II, the Scorpion, the Shaitan, and the Erinyes.

Thanks for the complement Raven...but I think my schedual is busy enough as it is. I'm actually trying to shed off as many projects as possible so I can fufill a few promises made and keep my life a little more open and dedicated to university life.

I'll take a fighter or two on, not sure how it will go, but I'll Email you about it if this takes off. I'm not sure how I'll fare at Capships, I don't really get on with em for some reason :( I think it's all the materials and poly groups, cos I throw my poor models through so many converters etc, they inevitably vanish/merge/move themselves.

Although I can do nothing to actually help this project if and when it gets started, it definitely has my approval not that that matters anyway... but you can be rest assured that I really really hope this works out. To all who do help with the project and if it does get finished... you are all A-1 SUPAR in my book... *tear* :D :yes:
