this is my tech-description of my main model in my campaign (the campaign is probably going to be called Path-finder or Far-Gate)
The Kommos Device:
The Kommos subspace portal was discovered in the Phaistos system shortly after the second Great War. The interlocking circular movement of its components create a subspace vortex that connects Phaistos to any part of our universe with a konossos device. Dr. Hargrove's team continues to study the device, though their findings are highly classified, we are allowed to tell you that we have figured out how to manipulate subspace corridors to temporarily relocate the end of the wormhole inside the Kommos device.
The Kommos jump gate is aptly named, the ancient Minoan civilisation had a town called Kommos it was a harbour town that served the palace of Phaistos. As we all know harbours were the home for ships venturing out into the abyss of the sea, just as we will use the Kommos jump gate to station our missions into unchartered space.
==========================================
I havent been able to make a model good enuf for this but I have some cool ideas, I would like to hear what you think it should look like.
p.s. I need help with model making and interface graphics, i will think about the missions later.

I think it should look a lot like the Knossos, except "beefier". Bigger, bulkier, but sort of streamlined.
I'd help but I don't have ANY tools on my computer anymore.
-
I was just thinking, obvusioaly its important that the story sounds realistic, so I thourt that when the terrans/vasudans find it behind a relitavly peacefull system like "Nads", its badly damaged. this means that thers no way that it could interfeor in any other campaign it also means that when the Kommos Device is repaired (when the campaign starts) it has terran parts sticking out of it like a sort of hybrid.
this is only an idea, the question is is it a good one.
========================================
also I think that this kommos device would need more power to work therefore it would require more "interlocking movements". e.g. the thing should be circular
-
making a hybrid look real will be difficult
perhaps the repair work could be said to be internal terran coponets then you can maintain the style fo the device

I have a couple of comments:
1) where is the Phaistos system? Do you have a map that shows it, because I would like to see it.
2) I can write up a more grammatically correct and better-flowing tech description paragraph, if you like, Fozzy. All you have to do is ask. I'm pretty good at that sort of thing. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
As for modeling, I can't do crap (no tools and no modding expertise). (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

Nothing, really. TrueSpace went when I got tired of having illegal stuff on my HD, I formatted the C: drive and now I can't find my Paint Shop Pro CD, and I just haven't bothered to download anything.
I don't model much anymore anyway.

Truespace 1.0 is free.

I know, but it isn't very practical. And don't any of you worry, I am never EVER going to touch any version of tS again (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Why is it I can picture the rear end of a leviathan on this thing in a few places to provide the spinning motion.

"Nads"? LOL...
The non-Americans in this thread prolly have no idea what we're chuckling about... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

dont worry zylon... it can be explained in one word... "immaturity"
-
hmmm... I've never heard of a star called "Draconis" or "Ross 598". Don't even get me started on "Nads" system...
Maybe it would be better if you found "real-life" star names and used those instead. I never really cared for made-up star names (Vasuda being an obvious exception). (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I'm just wondering why we have a system named after a hair removal product?
Seriously, I like the idea of a hybrid look. It shouldn't be too difficult to pull in one of those big useless Terran stations (Arcadia?) and attach it to part of the portal. Then put something smaller on the opposite end anchoring it there.

Well you're half right. One word, but that word ain't it. The word is, "slang".
This side of the pond, "nads" only has the one slang meaning, or no meaning at all.
-
If anyone can find a reliable source of star names I will be happy to change some of the names.
here is my latest map:
i think this latest map is the K9's nads, lol

But we still don't know where this links to the official FS2 node map.
-
It links to Icefire's map. And it's not "Nads", it's "Naos".
-
if you think YOU have a non-real looking starmap then you should look at mine! everything apart form Sol is made up!
names like:
Girson
Riker
Kinder
Tommel
and stuff!
-
Yea it should look beefier and older maybe, like older design and technology like it was made say 500 years before the Knossos.
-
Who would LIVE in the "Nads" system, anyhow?
"Hi, I'm Jim, from The Nads..."

There may be no individual star called 'Draconis', but there is always the Draco system, made up of Thuban, Rastaban, Eltanin, Nodus Secundus and Giausar (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Lambda Draconis, respectively). As for the Ross system, I'd say that was a military designation, not a named system.
For a rather nice list of stars and the constellations they belong to, as well as their system names (as opposed to their stellar names), try this handy page ("http://www.astro.uiuc.edu/~kaler/sow/sowlist.html").
As a side note, I think someone mentioned that the system was 'Naos', which would be Zeta Puppis.

sorry...I'll try to get back on topic...
Ok...My idea is that you don't have rotating sections, before you all cry out in horror, listen. If you don't have rotating sections, then you can build it in an ancient looking way (old, not the race), and then just stick ships into the side, instant hybrid! You could make some simple details to stick around the base of it, and mebby have...um...I just forgot...
sorry, total mind blank, but I think you get the gist...
