while i may not like the way a person speaks, what gives me the right to tell an uneducated person, or a person of lesser intelligence that what they post will be deleted, simply because they are uneducated...or not too bright?  For what it's worth i understood exactly what the guy was asking.  Then again, maybe the admin in question isn't much brighter than the person who created the post used in the example.

Basically, this is a stupid rule.

I think if somebody is really not intelligent enough to type in complete sentences, and use capital letters + the occasional period, then they probably couldn't work their comp...

If you read ythe rest of his thread, you see it to be a double standard.  I guess that is what irks me most about it.

I didn't like the latest iteration of the RBB, because it's always to strict. I'd prefer HLP keep it's current rules, and not adopt those of an anal-retentive board (don't get me wrong, it's a fun place, but it's waaay too strict)
Title: More forums should do this...
Post by: Thorn on August 27, 2003, 07:52:33 pm
I'm not saying we should be as strict as them, I'm saying that being able to read a person's post is a good thing, and someone who has the capabilty to write an intelligble post, but doesnt bother to because they dont read it after they type it out, should have it deleted to prove a point...

but the choice is still yours....you don't have to read a post by that person.  you can always block them.

Translation: "If you type with this spelling and grammar, you are an idiotic dip****."

I am goodamned sick of illegible posts and 1337-5p34k. This rule should be enacted here.  If you are not good with English, put your posts through a spelling/grammar checker. Please.:hopping:

 Too true. Oh well, no great loss. These are probably the kind of people who drive motorcycles of cliffs (probably the vast majority of Darwin Awards are given to motorcyclists) for kicks.

I disagree with it. My reasons are:

1. HLP does not need this, because I think all posts here are in English, expect a very few(for example the french conversation in the Campaigns forum) posts. I think it can be forgiven.

2. About bad English, I also have to disagree, English forums are a good way to learn English and improve your vocabulary(I have a complete txt file standing from new words I have learnt here, like dude, crux, hilarious etc.).
2-sub: It is also possible that somebody mistypes a word like the word 'Smile' to 'Simle', that is really not a reason to be deleted.

3. Bad English used by a foreigner is also a good way for native speakers to get trained understanding foreigner english. :)

4. I think the admin of this Relic forum is talking easy: He is probably a native speaker, and american or a brittish. The whole thing is unfair.

From the Relic Forums:

THIS RULE IS AIMED AT OUR ENGLISH SPEAKING MEMBERS.

If English is NOT your first language, do not be alarmed by this rule. You can either state in your post that you have difficulty with English, or it will be known to the moderators that English is not your first language because you have been on the forums for a while, such as the Homeworld.de guys from Germany.

It should be a rule that people need to read stuff before they reply :doubt:

I'd say its a good rule if you only apply it to completely unreadable posts. But since we have only a few of those here (which seemingly improve over time :)) we don't need it.

But if it were a HUGE board with people who go rampaging around commenting with unreadable posts I'd agree.

its a stupid rule and should not be enacted if I type my post like this does it mean my opinion is not valid enough for everyone to look at?
