I just heard on the news about a bunch of theives who stole a painting from a museum in Scotland. I was too late to hear the name of the painting on the news, but I caught the part where it said the painting was worth FORTY MILLION DOLLARS.
-
I still can't see why people pay $40000000 for a damn painting. No matter how rare.
-
It was a Leonard Da Vinci. It doesn't get much more valuable than that. I can understand it being $40M. You're talking about one-of-a-kind, never to be recreated, touched-by-the-master-himself. Yeah. That I can understand.
There's a lot of other stuff in the world that's overpriced for what you actually get. There hasn't been a car made in the last fifty years that was worth more than $5000. Neither Intel nor AMD have made a chip that was worth more than about $20/ea. There hasn't been a console/handheld that was worth more than $75 in the history of the industry. Most of us, however, have paid much more for any number of these things.
-
Well, it's worth as much as you're willing to pay for it isn't it?
-
Of course. If people are willing to pay $500 for a chip, it's worth $500.
-
And that my friends is why computer games, CDs, videos and many other kinds of media are so vastly overpriced.
Unfortunately, De Vincis can't be passed around via Kazaa ;)
-
You don't have the new version?

I'm d/l the complete collection of Monet's water garderns... you know, the ones with the bridges and stuff. This oil-on-canvas printer was worth the money

I just wanna say that the Xbox is currently sold at loss, so I guess we actually pay it cheaper than what it's supposed to be ;) ( just an exemple, mind you :) )

Well computer games cost millions of pounds to make. They actually reckon a lot of smaller companys are going to disappear with the advent of the next wave of consoles, as development costs rise so much so, that they can no longer make a profit.

Unless the police (or someone else) is able to retrieve the painting it'll be very long before we'll be seeing it again as it'll probably end up in some rich ****tard's personal collection so he can drool over it in the knowledge that no one else can enjoy it.
If they find him I hope they shoot him

Man, KaZaA has EVERYTHING! I downloaded the actual water gardens that inspired those paintings - they flooded my hard drive they were so big! :eek2:
-
Ha. Ha. :p
*coughs* Anyways... I guess computer games do cost a lot to develop - but not to produce. And a lot of money goes to the producers that should be going to the developers. At £40 a piece, thats a lot of money per sale!
-
Well, everybody has to make a living. But then again if you already have more money than you know what to do with, you get more.:doubt:
Corporate bastards...
More money to the developers *waves banner*
:D
-
More money to me! :D
-
figure a team of 25-50 people (volition's case over the years), working for two years with about $35,000-50000 average salary
