Title: Bomber weirdness
Post by: Dallan on August 28, 2003, 12:53:29 pm
Okay, so I DLed Freespace 2 from Home of the Underdogs, and then I got the voice and music VPs from Fractus' FTP, along with the 1.2 root VP and EXE. I also got the FS1 port, because it sounds cool.

I'm running FS2_Open 3.5, if that's important.

And now I'm running into something very odd. On the missions where your _job_ is to kill capships (Slaying Ravana, et al.), and you're supposed to be able to use the Cyclops bombs to do so...none of the bombers I have access to is able to use "Cyclops#short" weaponry, and so can't use the Cyclops.

So I get to kill capital ships with fighter missiles. Not Fun. Slaying Ravana turned into "somehow evade the seven Shivan fighters on your tail for ten minutes while the Vasudan corvette shockingly slays the Ravana"

Any of you have any idea why this is happening, and what I can do to fix it?

mmm, Cyclops#short shouldn't be used IIRC, but if you've got the FSport installed, i'm suprised that FS2 works at all, you can't play themain campaign if you have a mod installed, and you can't play two mods at the same time. unless you use the -mod command line.

Thats a known bug from the Port... See the port forum for details.

Diamond Geezer's Sense Talk #18: Screwy wepons in the main campaign are a common result of ****ing about with mods and things

then try this, modify your tables, or just install a mod with totally different tables, and then run the main campaign. something won't work.

only if you screw with the existing tables, which is why you back up the tables... I have 17 different modifications of my own design for FS1 in 4 different .tbls, and yet everything works fine...

Argh.

This is because I deactivated the cyclops#short as a player weapon, unaware that it was used in Slaying Ravana. I'm sure I modified the mission so you could use the standard Cyclops but I guess not. :sigh:

You can do it yourself if you know a little bit about tables, or you can remove the FSPort VP. Doing this in the middle of a campaign can have nasty side effects, however.

Well, okay. I'll see if I can work on the table myself: they some semi-self-explanatory.

Also, you may want to check The King's Gambit mission, I was getting the same error there as well.

Thanks.

-D.

Just reactivate it.  I see no reason why Cyclops#short shouldn't be allowed.  If anything, it provides an advantage to the mission designer, because giving Cyclops#short to the player makes the mission a bit harder.

Wouldn't help in the slightest. The problem was with the tables.

*Fire Control, target Dallan.  Power up photon beam cannons. Commence plasma core insertion. OPEN FIRE!*

Exits are to the sides and rear.  Personal flamethrowers are located beneath your seat in case of emergency or naughty disposition.  If you run into any Shivans while crawling through the ductwork, it's probably just Carl.  Give him your lunch, back away slowly, and you'll be fine.

Yeah, I deleted Cyclops#short once and got the same problem.
