So, source code people, how long do you think it would take you to get Specular mapping and bob's cool thruster thingy added to a stable (official) build? Because, I've been eager to go on a world-wide p1mping spree by mailing every PC games magazine out there about the more recent Freespace coolness (namely Inferno, TBP, LM), but I've been waiting for a good SCP build to further push the interest. Admit it, FS could use p1mping.

I think there is going to bo one soon, once CVS is up again there could be one in a day or two, theoreticaly, if you have you're registry set up properly the current build(s) have been some of the most stable.

I wasn't going to include that, as it is too new, and we've had problems with new things getting put in just before a relese,
remember 3.5 and the weapons loadout bug.

You know the specular thing... kind of of works in OGL. My stuff looks more metallic, less cartoony. And it's not nearly as bright as the DX effect. Which, to be honest, seems to be an improvement.
BTW, Bob, I seem to be seeing some glowpoint oddness. They're making my techroom text and buttons and stuff flicker, and my HUD flicker on and off when I look at one. And are the supposed to actually flicker before they come on solid? Could they be made with a smooth fade effect instead of on and off, preferably a user-definable value?

glow points are causeing HUD flickering!!??
are you sure you are useing the most up to date build?
HUD (ect) flickering was caused by incorect state setting, and should have been fixed, if you are useing the standard specular build make sure you are useing the most current version (the end of the my fisrt post in the specular thread) if you are useing the new engine thruster glow build it should not be doing this anymore

it is in, use the '-cell' comand line option, it's in all recent builds I'v relesed

'Tis not the most recent. Even I don't have the most recent code, since CVS is down. I'll be releasing 3.5.5 as soon as it comes back up.

I noticed some oddities with the HUD as well in Phreak's 8/30 build. It appears that the HUD suddenly just changes color momentarily at certain times (my normal is a turquoise-like color, which becomes a brownish red), although I haven't been able to find anything that could be causing it. Glow maps did not seem to be it since it was happening when I was looking at empty space.

I think it has something to do with shine maps but I thought it was fixed in the latest build. Try it.
