Is there a way to use
1. colored shields
2. pretty ship-loadout icons
3. squad logos
in custom ships?

I think the shield colour is determined by the race of the ship.
Pretty ship loadout icons can be done.
just create an ani similar to the one used by current ships.
Squad logos can be done but are damn tricky
you need to put a flat face into the geometry with a special name (I can't remember what search HLP for it).

shield colour is set up in the ship entry of the ships.tbl

Found the entry for shield color- thanks Venom!
Currently making pretty icons from shield ANIs and the palette for the original icons.
But, can anyone help to modify the models for the FS Port? There are only 5 ships- the Apollo, Valkyrie, Athena, Anubis, and Amun.

I have Dark's converted models. I just need someone to add the squad logos on them...tricky. Has anyone done this before? If so I'll send you the POFs so you can change them.

Uhm be careful, i tried to make colored shields to by setting the RGB to like 155,100,255 and FS2 crashed, i think it only does Red,Blue, and Green (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

That is kind of strange; I have changed around some of the shield effects and they work perfectly fine for me.
BTW be sure to not make it completely green, since it looks kind of weird in the game. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) (0 255 0 is the transparent color)
I have also been wondering about that squad logo thing; I want to put one on the Amun model for my campaign but have no idea how to do so. Does the "insignia" section in PCS have something to do with this?

when converting you need to have a subobject called insgLOD1 or something, PCS will make it into a insignia thing - I don't think you can do it with out recompiling the model however (prove me wrong! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)...
I use it on all my fighters (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Can you grab the models and tweak them? Or would that be infuriatingly difficult?
Edit: I also found that the turrets on the Amun don't work. How hard is that to fix?

The Amun turrets work fine for me; can you not get them to fire at all?

You can use any pallette, just as long as it has 256 colours.

I don't know if editing the insg section would work ,if it has UV properties then proably but you would haveto create 2 faces and four vetrex, it would be very hard to do... VERY hard unless you had a example to copy and paste it ALL then edit the locations with locations of guns you make in MV32, it's theoreticly doable but its much easier to decompile the model and recompile it (loading the original models 'extended properties') (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

No, turrets don't work at all. Oh! Wait! Maybe they have to be defined in the ships.tbl as subsystems. I'll have to check...
