Yes the poll times in 30 days.
I want a different name for it, but right now it stands at Semi-Active Radar Homing (SARH, not SARS). Much like the old Anti-air missiles (Sparrow, AA-6) where the pilot had to get a lock and then keep the missile in the line of sight so the missile will "ride" the radar wave from the firing aircraft to its target.
Advantages (in theory):
Faster Reload/Lock time needed because you only need an inital vector and range for the next missile to go to. Then its a matter of guiding it to the target.
Greater Range or Payload (or both). Less guidance equipment means more fuel and/or explosives
Less likely to be affected by countermeasures. You aren't locking on to the countermeasure now are you?
Good for the old-school mods like TVWP or TCs like FS:AAB
Good at longer ranges
Disadvantages:
Can only target one target at a time
Bad at shorter ranges
Bad vs maneuverable targets
Can't evade any incoming fire to any certainty
I don't know how much im gonna have to recode
-
If you can do it I say go for it :)
-
This would definantly be awesome for the TVWP, as well as anything else.:D
I was about to suggest this, so you'll make my day if it gets done.:)
*chants*
do it! do it! do it! do it!
-
i need cvs back up so i can commit other changes before i start this
-
This would be awesome. Right now Trebuchets are kinda over powered. Making it like the good ol' Phoenix missiles would be cool.
-
of course, as with every poll, there's got to be at least one bastard that votes "NO"...probably someone that didn't even read the topic.
i like the idea.
-
Good idea. It doesn't break backward compatibility so far as I know (just don't put these on AI ships) and it adds more options. I say do it.

I don't mind that they voted no. If they think there are better things Phreak can do with his time that's their opinion. What I mind is that they didn't have the courage to say why they didn't like it.

If you think you can do it then why the hell not?
-
Looks like you have resounding support

Mor evariation in weapons? Go for it

* Thinks of the good old AIM-54 Phoenix missile (standard f-14 Tomcat weaponry) ....
We would need something like that:
range - 120km
high speed
heat & aspect
ability to track up to 8 targets at once
(in combination with the f-14 radar , AWG-9), choose one and attack (if the target is destryoed before impact it chooses a new target).
:ha: ;7

It certainly might come in handy for my S:AAB thing as up until the late 80's the world was using the old AIM-7 Sparrow. Then the US got the AIM-120 in to service which could break off radar contact with the target earlier than an an aircraft using a Sparrow. The new Meteors we're getting over here are true fire-and-forget - all you have to do is designate a target and let fly, and you can target another enemy immediately without hurting the missile's PK.
Anyway, the point is that with this system I could demostrate older tech being replaced by new stuff from the USAF - though some people may not be happy about, the war in S:AAB is very much US-led, both in terms of millitary power and technology

I'd like an extra flag on each respective homing mode that specifies how long the homing mode lasts for before the missile becomes dumbfire -would this be hard to do? It'd be the same thing as countermeasures vs. homing missiles - when one gets spoofed it just keeps flying in a straight line for a bit.

well everything seems to be working so far. just need to test out the ai. it shouldnt be bad if you give them long range missile like trebs and such.
