Title: GAH, what the hell
Post by: Akalabeth Angel on September 12, 2003, 12:29:10 am
In my previous thread about Derelict I had mentioned that the mission did not let me skip it to the next mission, and I eventually exited the loop.

Anyways, now I'm on the 3+ parter where you basically kill fighters, and let some fighters go so you can whack some cruisers or something. Anyway I got to the Cruiser mission and I kept getting killed because I've only got 34% integrity and after dying a bunch of times I decided to replay the previous missions and only move on when I had better integrity. So I go to the previous mission with the engagement in the asteroids, and my integrity is the same so I figure I have to go back to the start. I crash into a few asteroids, and press replay previous and so it goes to the briefing for the mission I just intentionally failed. So I tried "replay previous" from the briefing, about five times, and each time it just went back to the same briefing.

So what the hell is going on? I couldn't skip before, I can't go back here, is my Freespace screwed up or what??? Is it just Derelict? I dunno what's going on, but in the meantime I'll play some more FS1

why dont you jest become invulnerable and beat that mission if it wont let you skip or replay it. FYI type www.freespace2.com in game and press `i simultaneously.

You can't do that in a campaign because you won't advance if you cheat.

It's an issue of design.  Freespace only stores red-alert information from one mission in the past, which means that if you have several red-alert missions in a row, stuff gets all screwed up if you replay anything.  I ran into the exact same problem myself when I played Derelict.  It's frustrating, but there's not much you can do about it except to not design campaigns with multiple red-alert missions. ;) I eventually used the invulnerable cheat.

I thought that if you were in a campaign, you wouldn't be able to advance to the next mission if you cheated and you would have to play it over again properly. Otherwise I would've turned invincibility on when I played But Hate the Traitor for the first time.;7:drevil:

God that was a hard mission (not anymore though:D)

False. I have completed the whole campaign with cheats.

V just says that to discourage you from cheating. You can cheat you brains out and still go on. ;7

You couldn't proceed only in FS1 if you were cheating.
