Yesterday on 11th of september Anna Lindh the foreign minister of Sweden was killed by a man with a knife. She died later in the hospital on the operating table of the wounds she got.
This truly is a sad day for the swedish people beacuse we lost on of our most beloved politicians.

Sad indeed :( . I bought some flowers with my family and brought them to the Sweden's embassy. You'll have to support your neigbour at times like this.
-
My deepest condolences Windrunner. :(
-
seriously, tho. she was stabbed september 10, and died early morning of september 11.
I also have a little problem with being sad, as I'd never met her. I feel for her family tho, and hope that this doesn't swing the emu election over to the yes side.
-
Harsh. Do we know of a motive, or was it random attack?
Actually, I caught part of the service on the news the other day. Even from that little bit of footage, it was obvious that Sweeden is feeling this.

it is pissing me off that john ritter and johny cash are getting so much coverage, and the only way I'd know about this is someone mentioning it in the UN before some speach, I know US news corps go after rateings and all but there should be some mention of it, it's weird

Its been all over the news here.

Because ratings are the Holy Grail and anything that the public doesn't care about is irrelevant. That's why the postponing of the marriage between J-Lo and What's-his-face is all over the news. Will they just SHUT UP about celebrities?! I don't care if the unwashed hordes adore celebrities, I'm going to snap if they keep babbling about who Madonna's kissing or who some idiotic movie star is choosing for her 10,000th marriage.
I think Anna Lindh's assassination is more important than two brain-dead attention whores postponing their wedding.:hopping:

Dude. NPR man, NPR. TV doesn't tell you anything useful, which is why I barely watch it (2hrs a week tops). This was on NPR's national segment and on the BBC World News segments.

The things I miss by not watching television. :D

You're not missing much.

Getting back to that PBS thread from a few days back when I was last in the US they were transmitting the BBC news at 6pm (which I found very useful while I was abroad). Might be worth seeing if they do the same in whichever state you're in.
As for who did it. Last I heard they had a suspect who was someone with psychiatric problems.
-
Sadness/anger :(
-
My condolences. Was this a political thing? Cause I can hardly imagine a Swede being politically extreme enough to warrant an assasination.
-
well according to the latest news they have a suspect. it is criminal known to the police and that he is also a nazi sympatist.
-
I heard about it a few days back (the initial stabbing). It was buried as one of the little subnotes in the middle of the world news section of the paper
-
Deepest condolences to you neighbors. I saw it in the news too :(
Looks like the police do have some leads but they're not revealing much at the moment.
-
don't be too sure, gortef. Palme was murdered 17 years ago, and the only suspect they have so far is now a hobo attention whore. and anyways, if a murder isn't solved within a week, the chance of it ever being solved is almost zero.
odd how none of the bystanders reacted when the perpetrator was running after her, tho. I'm pretty sure I would have at least done something, like blocking his way or something. Not that I like all politicians, but because I dislike being a witness of a murder.

Yeah. Did you hear about that new reality show that Spike TV is doing? Or about that reality show the Hallmark channel has going on? Just unreal.
-
I too am sad and extremely pissed. I'm sad because this happened, and I think it's a horrible loss for you.
I'm extremely pissed because nobody on our news channel told us about it. Maybe I should move to the UK when I'm older...it any better than the self-centered people running this country?
