Title: adding system points, help....
Post by: mnftg64 on September 12, 2003, 02:52:00 pm
I have the programs I need to add the points but my POF viewer (the freespace download one) doesn't show me the xyz coordinates. I need to know the coordinates of specific spots so I can type them in in fsmm2. anyone know how to do this?

you mean modview?  Create a subsystem with a small radius and move it around.  It also displays coordinates of any submodels relative to the origin.

Yep, and if you need to work out a normal use a gun point.

If I were you I'd just use modelview for the whole business of adding new gunpoint/firing points and leave fsmm completely out of it. See the pof editor button? Press that :D

You need a later version for the POF editor, I'm using 04b. As for the textures, double check that they are 256 colour PCX files, and that they are in the right folder. Sounds stupid but we all make those mistakes, and 90% of the time they're your problem.

Also, older version of Modview got stroppy about having the textures in the same directory as the POF for some reason :(
Yes, sounds to me like you have an older version of Modelview, you really need to get the latest version, and get Pof Construction Suite by Kazan, you can create engine glows in it (I always just create them in PCS at 0,0,0 and them place them using the latest version of Modelview).

Flipside :D

You can move engine glows in MV? What version you running? If it's later than 4b, could you send it my way? Like, wrap it round a brick and chuck it or something.

Are you using ModelView32 mnftg64? Or the shoddy old POF View? That would explain why you might not be able to see certain stuff.

Modelview V1 Beta 05 Build 28 (http://www.geocities.com/vasudanad/modv32b5.zip)

You may also want to check out Vasudan Admiral's high limits version (I've linked to the standard version on his site). You can find details of it on this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,15019.0.html) thread.

Odd. Works fine when I clicked on it. Just tried it now and it worked. Works from the link in the FAQ too.

Anyway as DG said if it doesn't work just copy and paste the shortcut into your browser.
