That's right, i finally got it working. Turns out i had to update my SiS drivers AND put in directx 9.0b, but i finally got it :)
The only problem is....
Well, i'll let the pic explain itself:
anyone know how to fix this? I mean, the lighting and stuff is supposed to look good, but that is just terrible! :eek2:
I dont mean any offense, i know how hard you guys work on it, just wanted to know if this is a minor problem with the program or wether its just my old system
-
did you try OGL?
try to use the diag thingy in the launcher, that ought to give the coders some more info.
-
OGL just crashes FS2 for some reason, so i've put it on Direct3d8, 640x480x32. The general settings were put on low, since putting it any higher caused FPS to drop like heck. I'm putting it on high and seeing wether it improves or not.
I have the 2.4 launcher, but i dont see any diag button anywhere in it.
-
nope. putting display settings on high mode didn't help one bit. going to try glide or one of the other modes instead.
-
ok...another slight problem, only after installing SCP.
After trying to play the original backup i get this error:
Error: Out of memory. Try closing down other applications, increasing your
virtual memory size, or installing more physical RAM.
File:C:\projects\freespace2\code\GlobalIncs\WinDebug.cpp
Line: 1121
Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
Even though i restart, it gives me the same error over and over again. What the hell is wrong here :eek2:
-
Check you've got version 3.5.5. I had the virtul memory error with some of the pre-3.5.5 interim builds, but only when I had loads of stuff in the background and a clipboard stuffed full of huge images...
-
erm, I'd say that your SiS card is most likely the root of the problem. SiS never made a good graphics chip, and integrated graphics (I'm assuming you don't have a SiS Xabre) just don't cut it for any game at all...

i knew it was there, i just knew it.
rund DXDIAG or something, and see if you can get the results of that into a txtfile.

Let's see you pay a full month's salary for a good card then :P
SiS is the staple card for the Indian home PC right now, and is inbuilt into this motherboard anyway, so i'm stuck with it. Any tips on how to improve the situation perhaps?
I have done what you recommend kasperl, and i've uploaded the .txt file as well. I'm not sure exactly who the head coders are or who even looks into this stuff, but give me a few names and i'll send over the link (really dont want anyone with....'questionable' motives to get it...blame my paranoa on that  )

Please put up the picture again, or send me a jpg copy.

The picture is still there. my villagephotos account was locked temporarily for crossing bandwith limits, so it should be back up shortly
