Dunno how important this might be, but the latest Irfanview (//www.irfanview.com) build apparently supports these direct draw thingies you code monkies seem so excited about. Whether that means it can only open them or can actually save them, I don't know as I have no idea what they are or how they work :)

As I understand it dds files are images with built in mip maps
