Title: Exodus: A freespace2 campaign
Post by: Ulundel on February 02, 2002, 08:22:00 am
Let's see...the apocalypse project, star trek project...no, not enough for me. A year ago or so I released a campaign and people liked it. Time to move on! After finishing my Prologue campaign for a FS 2 mod, I'll start modding fs2, ammmm...to create a...a...a...FS2 campaign! What do ya think?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Exodus campaign:

IMPORTANT!!!!! In my campaign...
Nobody knows where Bosch is
GTVA haven't reached to SOL
Shivans are gone...for some time

Some features:
fighter beams
ground battles
pilot a transport

Story:
Campaign consists of 2 chapters
1.Khonsu II dies  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) and a new but evil emperor takes over the vasudan fleet and he says that to survive, we must elliminate all threats so a part of vasudan fleet starts to "elliminate" terrans. The civil war bigins and it ends with the destruction of the vasudan gunship (gunship=a small vessel, like Deimos, but can take down ravanas, demons, hecates etc.)
2.After the civil war, GTVA discovers a jump node deep in the Gamma Draconis nebula. Behind the node is a cute system with a planet like earth. But soon they will discover a massive space station (about 30-40 km long). Yup, a shivan space station. This is it? The shivan home? The source of shivans? MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/naughty.gif)

Any comments?

no offense but all you 'features' are either done or being done...
so how do you solve this problem - ADD MORE!

your plot is a little predictable... but it might be cool to play - IF you do it right   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

[WARNNING: PIMP STATIONS! PIMP STATIONS! THIS IS A DRILL, THIS IS A DRILL]
My MOD/TC/Campaign has got super fighters and super bombers (massive things with very heavy weapons) 5 'sides'. ALL new ships (there fore I beat Inferno because they kept 2 MU HA HA HA HA). Flayable shuttles. The best hangars you have ever seen. loads of turrets. more turrets. 10 classes of ship. loads of other stuff!

this is how you pimp LAW ENFORCER style by the way...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

PLOT ERROR!!! PLOT ERROR!!! How does the GTVA manage to get BACK to the Gamma Draconis nebula? They collapsed the jump nodes in Capella to cut Capella and Gamma Draconis off from the rest of the GTVA, remember? So if this is true, how does the GTVA get back to the nebula?

And don't forget that Capella, Gamma Draconis and the nebula are all heavily Shivan-infested...

Were. You don't know if there's a single shivan left. Why would they stay there?

Well, why not put it another way: Why would the Shivans leave there? Just as there's nothing to suggest that the Shivans stayed in Gamma Draconis, there's nothing to suggest that they left either.

We saw the Shivans leave Capella, but that says nothing about Gamma Draconis and the nebula and it says nothing about the Shivans returning to the Capella nebula (Capella is a nebula now) once the supernova was over.

And that "return to the Gamma Draconis nebula" bit in Ten of Twelve's plot still has to be fixed (or done away with altogether) if he wants his plot to make sense.

Who says that's a problem? The execution of new features in campaigns isn't down to a fine art yet, so any feature has opportunity to be further refined. Not a problem.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

My one comment: the name. Exodus was an idea for a campaign following my Revelations one... but since Revelations probably won't get built, neither will Exodus.

But, I'd suggest a different name from Exodus (or a different plot) because of the meaning of Exodus ("A departure of a large number of people" ("http://www.dictionary.com/cgi-bin/dict.pl?term=exodus")).

For a campaign called Exodus, I'd go with (and this was the idea I had) the GTVA being lost not only from Sol, but from all of their systems in FS2. My idea followed one of the endings of my Revelations campaign (where the Shivans return intent on wiping out the GTVA). But, to follow FS2, I'd say that after the events of FS2, the Shivans return (maybe supernovaing more stars), and the GTVA has to grab all the ships and resources they can and flee, and keep running from the Shivans. And lets say, maybe, they find some more Ancient artifacts, artifacts that say that there were some Ancients who fled the Shivans, and now the campaign is the GTVA following this trail of Ancient artifacts, while on the constant run from the Shivans who are nipping at their heals.

That's the type of campaign I'd call Exodus. And that's my 2 cents on the name.

Joe.

Well, any campaign is fine with me, as long as ain't the Millennium campaign (u know what I mean), and since i know ToT personally, i know it won't. Among other things i'll be around releasing a mini-campaign in the end of February.

And you're not making this because... ??? Dude. That sounds like a kickass basis for a campaign.

The possible sequel to Over the Top is called exodus  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif).
Anyway, it's unlikely I'll do it.

How can you speak of sequels when you aren't ever close to finishing your first campaign.

All right. Last few days I have worked with the story and everything, so here are the answers...

1. Yes, I don't like the name exodus too but Inferno is taken, campaign named "hell" would be funny. What else...the III great war...no, not a chance. So, it will be EXODUS!

2. The Gamma Draconis thing was just a little mistake. See, my Prologue campaign end up with the arrival of sathanas and the juggernaut jumps through a unstabile node. but eight years later, terrans come up with a machine that can open damaged jump nodes. Anyway the make a little visit to Capella. I know, I know PLOT ERROR!!! GTVA just sends a scouting party to investigate. So that's it-no gamma draconis!

3. I know, the plot seems a little predictable but think abou the FS2. When shivans come, it's sure that there will be a battle. When GTVA has Colossus, it's sure that shivans must have something too. But then, Capella explodes and THAT'S a surprise but you people don't know how Exodus ends. THAT'S a surprise too.

WOW, I haven't heard any comments or complains about that 'ground battle' feature!

Okay just one more nip at the name Exodus:
It was a mission in FS1.
It was a mission in FS2.
It was a music track in FS2.
It's been overdone. Find a thesaurus.
