Has anyone reskinned the Arcadia to look Shivan? We're thinking of using such a mod in the Awakenings port. I'd look on F2S, but it's down again. :rolleyes:

Never having played Awakenings I'm not aware of the precise reason you'd want such a mod, but wouldn't a standalone Shivan installation be more appropriate? The arcadia model doesn't look shivan by any stretch, and changing the textures would only change that very slightly.

In the Awakenings timeline, Outpost Riviera was captured by the Shivans (not destroyed) and transformed into the central hive for Shivan operations in T-V space. We have to use the Arcadia in any case, but if we had Shivan textures for it it'd look pretty cool.

openen the arcadia pof in moedlview, and switch the maps. there's really nothing difficult doing your own reskin.

I'm not sure completely switching would make sense - that'd imply that they rebuilt it and changed all the lights when they captured it... perhaps a vaguely borgish approach of having patches of Shivan texturing showing through against the terran design or something similar?

seeing the arcadia uses map tiling, that would look quite bad and obvious, unfortunately.

Okay, I knocked it up in just under two minutes (cross referencing maps and stuff) but is this the sort of thing you mean Goob?

Yeah. From what I can tell, you'd need to redo the mapping of the model...

Pretty much. :nod: There'd need to be a better transition between Terran and Shivan textures, but that's more or less it.

Well, that's just changing between existing textures. I think to get the effect you're after, you'd need to make new ones.

how about messin' around with the model (choppin' off some the edges etc) to make it look more battle damaged ?

Hack off parts of it like magatsu said but also add some spikey Shivan growths or something, preferably where something has been cut off.

Not necessarily... If the modder is careful about how he does it, the remodeled Arcadia could work just like the original. It would just take a lot of work to get just right.

Awakenings is supposed to be compatible with the original Port, which means no new tables. The SCP allows us to retexture on the fly, but we can't add extra table entries.

Isn't there a change model sexp? As long as you don;t touch the turrets/subsystems wouldn;t that work just as well?

You're right, I hadn't thought of that. :) Unfortunately, it still requires an extra table entry to change into.

It does? Well ****. That quite neatly punctures some Ideas for... several projects of mine actually. Though this would kind of constitute a thread hijack, would a change pof sexp be possible for the next SCP release? I can explain why I'd need it, though I'd prefer to do that over IM or PM, and I'm sure you can see how it'd be applicable here. (BTW - I dunno if this changes the difficulty of the concept, but it wouldn't need to alter the number of turrets or subsytem types or anything relevant to play. Just the shape of the ship.

Oh, well of course you don't have to change the model it was just a suggestion. Still, it would be cool, like the Beast from HW as someone has already said.
