Well, just visited their site and found nothing new... just the old Summoner II/Red Faction II twaddle. Anyone know what their current projects are?
-
Judging from what was posted on the VBB before it was torn down they were supposed to be working on a Britney Spears game weren't they?
I can understand why they wouldn't want to put that up on their website :D
-
I asked about this a month after the release of RFII, in a poll on VW. Someone brought it up again on VW this summer, and someone from V posted to say yes, they're working on something and no, they can't tell us about it.
-
yeah from what i've heard Volition is working on something (they're always working on something ;) :D) and they won't tell us what it is, so GE's right  :)

ah yes... From ericB on vwbb:
No were not going under, yes were working on something, no we can't tell you what it is.
-
Yeah....
I doubt its the Britany Spears game, I think we made that up at VW and like all jokes, someone took it seriously and now we have a rumor on our hands. So I *doubt* its the next Britany Spears game.
But that aside....its definately "something" but its not really anything that anyone knows about right now.
-
Freespace 2003!!!
-
This is somewhat off-topic, but does anyone know why they took the VBB down?
Freespace 2003!!!
Don't we all wish....
-
Cause it made baby Jesus cry :D
In actual fact it turned into a pit of flames, spam and trolling in its final days. V probably did us a favour closing the place down.
-
haha they took the Britney Spears game seriously :D
-
 britney spears blows....

What karajorma said... Only the posters who either thought about what they were going to say, joined during a flaming slump, flamed right back, or looked past the flaming survived.

Adventures of the Volition Bravos!
:nervous:

My theory is the VBB went down for two reasons--
1. They had neither the time nor the inclination to properly moderate it.
2. It was embarassing for their current flagship game (Red Faction) to be so mercilessly slagged on their own BB.
I'm still shaking my head at how all-around half-assed RF turned out.
-
Mm, looking back on it now, it's not so bad...
I was watching someone playing Enter the Matrix today, and was appalled at the physics. I told them about Red Faction and how you could blow holes in walls and toss things around.
Then again, maybe it was Halo's physics I was thinking of. I thought I remembered dead bodies being flung around with great violence and realism, but now I'm not so sure.
-
Cause Halo is so much like RF

RF was the game with walls made of flesh and people made of stone.
-
All I remember from the RFII review is quite how annoying the geo-mod engine actually was in practice - if you wanted to bust in to a building with a locked door, you couldn't just blow a hole in the wall if you weren't supposed to...

I was about to say it was the moderation (which, being non-existent, let the forum quickly descend into flames - something we have tried very hard to learn from here), but I hardly ever understood all the happenings of the RF section. That said, with all the opinions in the community floating around about it (as ZB has just voiced), I never bothered to get the game.

I enjoyed Red Faction, actually. Multiplayer was fun when people weren't cheating. It was always fun to play a capture the flag w/ RF and just blow your way thru the walls to the the enemies flag. The maps they had were sweet also. Geo-mod ownz. That was the coolest feature. Also the vehicles were pretty tight, too.
The only thing that Red Faction didn't live up to was the AI. You supposedly could "sneak" around and not have to kill everyone, but there were times that the AI just KNEW you were there. W/out even poking your head out they were already firing down the hallway or room. Once they've find you and you were in a firefight, they didn't move too bad using cover, fleeing, strafing.
Also, the difficulty settings sucked. If you increased the difficulty it would come to a point where the AI didn't get better (in the sense of using environment for cover, strafing, etc), but rather they would cheat. They suddenly would move so fast that they're legs stopped moving, making them look like they were sliding or flying. Accuracy for them would go up 1000% and they were almost always head shots (a headshot in RF meant instant death).
It was short, too. I remember complaining that I had finished the game in too little time.
I didn't like the previews of RF2 so I didn't buy it. A friend rented it for the PS2 and he said it was fun, but short.

And the graphics, level design, voice acting, plotting, writing, weapons, scripted sequences, cheat protection, and mod support.
Other than that it was just jim-dandy.

RF was... okay :doubt:
-
it was fun online until people started floating and ****. i still killed them. precision rifle owned
-
  Precision rifle did indeed 0wn. sweetness=rate of fire only limited to how fast your mouse clicks
-
What's V up to hmm...their building a time machine, their making a new space sim, their writing out checks and sending them to me :D, their getting a blow job from britney spears. just a few what if's to keep you guy's busy while i'm off. tata.

:wtf:
Drugs are bad, mm'kay.

....drugs are gooood.:D

Prescription Drugs used as prescribed are good.
Illicit drugs you get from your buddy are not.

they're making FS3, writing a new engine from scratch even -- and just just don't want us to know about it :D

Do too many drugs and you'll have to beg.
-
To all of this talk about Drugs: I stand by my statement.
Also, I'd like to comment that my perceptions are already messed up as it is so I don't need any help from chemicals.

I've seen it a million times, but I still don't understand how threads drift like that so fast
-
Thread dynamics are inherently unstable.
-
It's like a law of physics or something
-
you sure about that?
-
no, that's why there's the "or something"
-
Then how do you explain the Tell a Story and Word Association threads?
NOTE: Please do not restart either of those topics, lest the admins kill you.
-
because threads like that can't get any more unstable
-
Red Faction...
I got that for Christmas 2001. I started it in the morning, played for 8 hours, and had finished it by the evening. HOW bloody easy?
I can now finish it in 4 hours, even if I look for all the secret areas.
Why are games so short?
-
Some games are short because they're given insufficient time for development.
Now Deus Ex... that was a game that gave me my money's worth.
-
Damn right it did. O'course, it crashes in WinXP when I reach a certain point. About 15 minutes after I enter the 'underground airfield' level, the game freezes and I have yet to find a solution to this problem.

Somehow, though, it refuses to run smoothly on my AMD K6-II 350 mhz processor with a TNT 2 video card system.
-
Deus Ex, as all things running on the Unreal Engine loves RAM.
On the other hand Windows manages RAM poorly.
So you may want to tweak your windows a bit...
-
hmm...
