Title: Movies Suggestion
Post by: mnftg64 on September 28, 2003, 04:33:40 pm
ok, I know these movie topics are getting old but I have a suggestion. I know the AVI's are available, and I'm downloading them now. I also know that there is a way to make them work which I am going to do. From what I am told the Intro still wont run, so maybe someone could again modify the campaign file for V's FS2 campaign to make the Intro run before the first mission.

I would do it but I'm still teaching myself to texture map and I can't learn more than one thing at a time.

I would take 30 seconds for someone that knew how right? Anyone want to whip this up? and maybe Kajorma (spelling?) could put this on his faq in place of the older one.

While I am at this, anyone else notice higher quality and new sound effects in the AVI's or is it just me?

The intro doesn't take any info from the campaign file. FS2_open automatically looks for a file in the main directory called intro.avi (in fact it may just look for intro.*) and plays that if it finds it.
Even when you play a mod you should still get the intro.

The campaign file is needed to tell FS2 when to play the other movies (except for the 3 endmovies. These should be triggered by the End-Campaign SEXP - The one available from the Event Editor NOT the one available from the campaign editor)

Basically if the intro doesn't work something is most likely wrong with your FS2_open set up or you are missing the correct codecs (you need the latest DIVX ones). The intro works everytime on my computer (it's got an annoying audio glitch right at the start but that was caused by MVE2AVI so there is nothing much I can do about that).

If you have any problems once you've downloaded it tell me and I'll alter the file but you ought to report this on Bugzilla too.

There is no way to manually tell the game to play the end movies. The End-campaign SEXP triggers a hard coded routine which chooses which movie to play depending on how you finished the mission.

I'm assuming that when Random Tiger made the movie playing code he fixed the end movies so that they would play if they were present as an avi (in the same way that the intro was fixed) but until I complete FS2 again I can't be certain of that. The campaign file I put up for download only fixed the middle movies (including Bastion) but I couldn't do anything much about the intro and end movies since they were hard coded.

O yeah, karajorma, would you be interested in working on another campaign project or are you still to busy with your current 2? I could really use some help on mine. If you would like, more details are available on my site below.

I'm not prepared to take on another campaign (I'm actually working on 3 main ones and have smaller roles in a couple of others) but if you need any help or advice I can spare a small amount of time.

I really need a couple of good MODers and Texture people right now, so if you could just recomend people to me or something, that would be helpful. I tought my self to mesh models but texturing is a B*(&CH, and I need a few of the models before I can start to FRED which I can do myself if needed. Thanks for any help.

On a side note, you're FAQ has been really helpful.

Ask in the Modding forum, you'll get a lot more replies than in here.

If I knew a great texturer I'd have hit them with a cosh, dragged them away, chained them up and forced them to work for MG already so I don't think I can help you there I'm afraid. :D
