The sooner a technology is used in mass production, the more its value drops. Also, the more people see it, the more they begin to get an idea of how its implimented (*imagines a hovering Arab Saucer blowing up the pentagon*).

Just one more reason to hate Bush... :)

Still I would prefer if these researches were done with the benefit and protection of ALL mankind in mind instead the national security of a nation - even one as mixed and cavalier minded as the US.

I doubt if Bush had any role in such long term development.
Good to see Blighty still "in the race" !! :D

I was dicussing this with my space science housemate yesterday - we concluded that, looking at early jet devlopment, if British scientist had a US budget we'd piss all over the rest of the world in a space race

Cool stuff there, Sandwich, particularly the electronic printers.

[semi-minor rant]
*points at the BAC TSR.2* Best strike-craft to be still-born. The/You brits didn't get a plane even approaching its performance 'till the Panavia Tornado. The only reason it was cancelled was because our happy government(the U.S.) stuck its nose where it didn't belong. Same story with the Avro CF-105 "Arrow." Sorry, I love my country and all, and the planes it has developed(well, most), but it pisses me off when I think of the planes and possible technological advances it has simply dicked around on and screwed other countries out of. The TSR.2 was developed in the late 50's and would just now start having aircraft entering service that would match its overall performance.

Sorry, about the rant. I tend to get emotional about good planes. Anyway, I shall leave with this: The Handley Page Victor is cooler than the Avro Vulcan. Thank you and goodnight![/rant]

 Well said, Bob. ;)

I've heard of this. Pretty interesting for now, but I'd like to see if it actually comes to fruition in the next ten years.
