do you know where else (aside from hotu) i could dl some cool space sims.
also be so kind to name the best (but not x-wing and other star wars games)

i don't want to dl ILLEGAL products,
but ie. Fs2: it' ok to dl it from hotu same is for privateeer

it's wing commander: privateer. it requies dos to run so i suppose its number 1

the darkening was a dos game too, ut I doubt it's the one anyway.

ok, tell me one thing:
if i can dl fs2 from hotu, then why  dl any other game from there  (excluding freeware) is illegal.
i know the difference beetween dl q3 and fs2 from hotu,
warez and not-warez.
why can't i dl something else on the same basis like fs2?

You could try "allegiance".  Its a multiplayer space sim, it used to be pay to play but now its free.  I don't know how it is, someone gave me the link to it just recently, but I haven't had time to try it yet.  Supposedly its pretty good :)   Here is the link for download and such: www.alleg.net

I don't think it's free, but probably very cheap to buy: Echelon. It's by some eastern european/former-soviet country developer, so it's not very widely known, but it's pretty good! It's more of a ground-attack game than a space game, but it's fun and challenging to play, so give it a go. :)

I managed to download Elite a while back (it's old enough that I'm assuming it doesn't count as warez). I was most peeved that it refused to run under XP... though not really suprised :D

Look for VDMS sound for win2k.

Though it's supposed to be a soundcard emulator it does provide a fairly good environment for old games to run.
