How many attempts did it take for you to complete this mission?
I didn't count it, because I was out of my trousers because I was very low on nerves. Tuned the difficulty down to 'Very Easy'. I could make it after the tenth try(approximetly), with two beams down. and the SD Beleth escaped :)
-
I got two beams down on the first try, but tried again and again till I got all four. :p
-
pfffffffffffffff, i think about 20 try's on very easy, and letting the beleth go.
but with some practice, i do it in one on medium, with 2 beams and the beleth. i got all 4 plus flak once, but i never get 4 plus flak plus rear plus beleth
-
took me about half a dozen tries untill I remembered double fire mode and rearming. Never managed to nail the flak guns though.
Takes too long to rearm.
-
a couple times, tho i only was able to take down 2 guns and the beleth
-
About 4, I think. I can't remember, it was years ago!
-
1st try, three beams
-
Whaaoo! First try and three beams down? :eek2:
-
I don't count how many tries it takes. But I think it was around 6-10 and I only nailed two of the guns. Second time around on Hard level it probably took 10+ because the Beleth kept wacking me. I've never taken down all four guns AND the flak. I send two flights of bombers against the damn flak and they can't get the job done the useless turds.
-
I just tell the other fighters to cover me.
(and the debriefing accuses Alpha 1 of being incompetent)

well... I was lucky. probably in perfect shape too.
-
well, I did the mission on the first try, but I doubt I got more than two beams ( can't remember, to be honest ).
-
1 - got 2 beams. I'm quite surprised that people would have redo that, cos i'm crap at Freespace.
-
I only remember doing it once, but it was ages ago...
-
eventually i would just cheat that mission playing through the camp again it was so dam hard....
and boring to...
-
I think I managed to get the two beams within the first few tries, but it took ages to be able to get all four reliably. I finally figured out that you have to hit the arms at just the right angle - maneuver so you're directly in front of the Sath, then get real close to the arm. Jiggle the fighter until you see a large flat surface, then fire. :D Knocks them out every time.
-
Got 3 the frist time and settled for that. Thou luck may have been a huge factor I finished the mission with like 5% hull.
-
Only 2 on my first time. But I replayed it about 20 more times and couldn't even get 2 anymore and eventually bumped the difficulty to VERY EASY just to blow them all up out of frustration.
-
Actually, when I first played Bearbating I was somewhat disapointed. 4 beams, first try. Admittedly, I didn't get any flak and it took me until the second go to take out the Demon, but I was expecting more of a challenge.. Don't remember the difficulty though, was probably "Pathetic" or something :)
-
I actually beat the game the first time around, every mission, first time around.
It was on Very Easy, so sue me
-
i destroyed all four beams

Same here:nervous:
Well, except for maybe one or two, when I couldn't figure what they wanted done, but I immediately redid them.
-
What happened to me is due completely to me starting the game on Very Hard and bumping it down to Hard for most of the rest of the game (with extremely annoying missions that I just CAN'T beat bumped to Easy out of frustration).
-
Sometimes I cannot understand those people, who start a new game on Verh Hard for the very first time. I decided to stop playing on Medium skill for the very first time in the case of Jedi Knight II. I managed to beat the game, but I am playing on easy since that.
-
and here's me thinkin' all you guys were all FS masters, played on very hard and kicked it's ass every time.
I'm dissapointed. You guys suck. ;)
-
First time through the game: 3 Beams in one attempt. Second time: about 4 attempts to get 2 Beams. Latest (on Medium instead of Easy): about 10 attempts to figure out the correct approacha angle, 4 to take out two Beams, another 6 before I got all four, and then another try to avoid getting vaporised by one of the Beleth's Beams while divebombing... The last try involved perfect angle of approach vs all the Sathanas forward Beams (two Helii on each), one Helios into a Sathanas Flak gun, one Helios into a Beleth Beam Cannon, then the remaining two into the Beleth's engines.

Thank you in the name of the community :)
Now, Mr. Master, can you answer us 'which was first, the hen or the egg?'

Hey! Screw you, then! :D :p
-
i took down two beams on the first run, brought down four on the second. all in the afterburners.
never managed to bring down the flak. i generally assign my incompetent wingmen that task, which they fail at. horribly.
i don't remember if i managed the bring down the beleth as well. it's been too long.
-
first time through: 2
i can get 4 on medium
-
I THINK, I knocked down 3 of them and blasted the destroyer on my first time not dieing. I could be wrong.
-
Bearbaiting tormented me, because I took down all four beams on Insane on the very first try, and then - I jumped out by accident, not knowing that the Beleth was about to arrive in-system. So I replayed the mission, took down the four, and found the bonus cannon. :p So, 2 attempts.

The Hen. It evolved.
Next Question. :D

I really really dislike you.
And I don't remember how many tries - I think I got 2 on the first try and simply went on and got the other 2 in the next mission.
-
Which came first?
I always thought it was the Cockerel ;)
Sorry
Flipside :D
-
It was the egg. This is a fact. Genetic alteration occurs almost always between hen and egg, but rarely between egg and hen. So the egg could come from a bird that wasn't actually a hen (but genetically very close, of course).
Now let's please not start another argument about evolution.
-
Bah you're all missing the point. Nowhere in the question does it say the egg is a chickens egg. So the egg was first since there were creatures that laid eggs for millions of years before the chicken came along :D

You are absolutely cool.
-
I got all four beams and one flak gun on my first try, but then got a face first look at the inside of a Sathanas. 16 tries later, all 4 beams, both flak arrays, and the Beleth reduced to Shivan-coloured space dust. Phoenicia and the Vasudan corvette survived.
16 tries? Damn, I'm pathetic.

Wow - from Beam Cannons to Evolution in 4 Easy Steps, by Dr. HLP. :p
-
All roads lead to ridiculous discussion at HLP. :D
-
About 4 tries...
Got 3 beams down and blasted the Beleth to dust! And I was VERY nervous, since I was left with 2% hull after the Sath jumped out!

was that my fault ?!! :p

The question was from me. It wanted to be rather comical than serious.
-
yeah but you were responding to my "funny comment" !
time to let this thread die, me thinks.
-
it still has a few chance to remain alive for at most a week.
*Putting thread under breathing machine*
-
I took out 2 beams on the first attempt, thought I could do better, restarted, and couldn't do anything at all!
Took me about 6 more attempts to even get two. Did it another two times and got 3, settled for that. Will be doing it properly next time. When I get it working. It was on medium difficulty though.
-
I allways play on heavy or very heavy.
I need a challenge (alltough those sitting ducks that are caling themselvs enemy fighters aren't one really....)

Sorry to bring back this thread, although it isn't that old. Not yet.
I have a silly question about this mission: what is this bonus objective Setekh spoke about? I played through the campaign a few times, but I have never seen that canon. I didn't really look for it either, I was busy enough with the front beams.
And to answer the question, two beams down the first time around. (Medium level) After that the four beams are usually down, if I manage to survive that is. Am I the only one who has more problems with the fighter escort than with the Sathanas itself? These fighters are very skilled at ruining the day and preventing me from surviving. They must know that the biggest threat in the universe is neither the Colossus nor their Sathani fleet, but Alpha 1.
Fifteen ships are supposed to deal with the escort wings, but they aren't quite effective. They seem to behave more like unarmed drones than actual fighters or bombers, as they are shot down at an impressive rate. (Less than two minutes of fighting and four wings down. Good luck Alpha One with the Beleth) Sure, they aren't attacking me at least. (A friendly trebuchet killing you right before the end of the mission is *so* frustrating)
-
that beam is under the fighterbay... fly strait under the ship to find it...
-
Thanks for the tip, I will check it out next time I play that mission.
-
It's evident that only a few pilots can meet that goal, it is very hidden. I haven't known it until I had a look at that mission is FRED.
No bonus score is given to any goals completed in the [V] campaign, so I don't waste my time on things like this. I would rather concentrate on destroying the fighters. I get SCORE for them.(Not much, but Not much > 0. :))
