Title: WWII Flights sims?
Post by: Unknown Target on October 02, 2003, 02:42:36 pm
What do you guys think are the best, not in total flight dynamics and graphics quality, but overall, including community, expandability, etc?

Combat Flight Sim?

Combat Flight Sim 2?

Combat Flight Sim 3?

IL-2 Sturmovik?

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles?

Jane's WWII Fighters?

Or some other, non-MMOG sim?

I bought IL-2, but I don't REALLY feel like shelling out another 50 bucks for an almost-identical game (at least I think so, it's quite different, I know, but I want a completely new game experience)

I tend to think IL-2 is best of all.

BTW, another WWII flight sim is Warbirds III. It is almost as good as IL-2 (many planes to fly (including bombers), good graphics, can even drive some tanks), and you can donwload it for free and play as much as you want agaist AI pilots in different kinds of missions. (only need to pay to play online)
Its 180MB if recal correctly, plus a 30MB sound pack that replaces the sounds with much better ones.

The website is
http://www.totalsims.com/index.php

(the website makes it seem like you have to buy it, but you can get it in the downloads section)

I play Forgotten Battles every chance I can get.  Expect an annoucement for some kind of upgrade or new sim from these guys in a day or two as well.

At present, third party guys are modeling all sorts of planes Spitfires, Tempest, Beaufighter, the B-26, the B-25...the Zero and Ki-84 are essentially done....lots of other stuff.  None in the game yet obviously because its all done through Maddox games first but these things should show up somehow soon.
