Title: A render
Post by: Razor on October 04, 2003, 10:58:56 am
It's been 5 months or maybe even more since I rendered something, so here's a one I did today. Any opinions? Suggestions? They are welcome as always.
Razor

I called this one: Up close and personal

Link removed... Don't use an0n's webspace - he loves doing crap like this. // Sandwich

EDIT. I just noticed that it looks very pixelised. If you get this too, please tell me.

Hey, that's pretty nice!

You might want to make the shivan beam a bit brighter, the white center is a bit bland.

rotate the turrets and remove the turret debris on the corvette, first.

Agree with the 2 above, I'd also suggest adding some incidental detail - i.e. more laser fire from the ships towards each other, maybve even flak - you've got the glow & the explosion looking pretty damn nice :)

Ok thanks. guys. Yes, it's been a while since my last render, but I am just getting back into shape. A few things that I can't do. I can't rotate the turrets because simply said, I don't know how. So anyone know how to rotate the turrets in Lightwave? I guess I might be able to make flak explosions. I might use the test explosion i used here which was blended with other explosions so it may work. Now I don't egt this. When I view the immage my self, it all looks pixelised and blurry. What's the problem? I am having this only in my browser IE6, but when I made the render, it looked ok I guess.

ok what i suggest is kill the specularity on the shivan ships... give em glow maps..... and set damage texture transparency to 100 on deimos :)
Title: A render
Post by: Razor on October 04, 2003, 01:42:49 pm
The shivan ships allready have glows added, it's just tha tthey are small and a bit too far away to notice. Deimos has glows just like Rakshasas..
Title: A render
Post by: Ashrak on October 04, 2003, 01:45:47 pm
hmm but still take off the specularity unless you have spec maps :)

Edit: on a BETTER not give the glossiness and specularity the same settings as the main texture aka press T set UV map XDS soft and the map then use texture this will give you PRETTY good shines  :)

it doesn't look pixelised to me, btw.

I agree 100%.  The overlapping debris models kill more otherwise decent renders than any other flaw.

I never used Lightwave myself but I'm pretty sure there must be some way to rotate objects, just take a quick look into Lightwave's user reference that should get you the neccesary info. And you might want to work a bit on that explosion effect, it looks too 2D in contrast to the image

id love to know how to rotate turrets easily
Title: A render
Post by: CobaltStarr on October 04, 2003, 11:10:04 pm
Well the turrets would need to be either seperate objects or seperate layers (v. 6.0+ only) but either way they will then be available for rotation and the rest...

It actually _was_ a render at one time. I can vouch for that. Now, if Razor would like someone to upload his original image, he can PM me, and I'll put it on United Space's server...

By the way, since Goecities stinks, does anyone know of a good place where I could upload pictures?

Really nice pic, but I agree about losing the glow on the Tcov, it looks a tiny bit odd, but other than that, very nice :)

Thanks for the advices, and KT I never knew it was an0ns site because I always went directly to the image upload page. Secondly, I din't know that he would be such an moron to replace my pic with something else, but let's drop this. OK?
Now, here's a scene from a nebula, The Fall of the psamptik which I mad ea couple of minutes ago. It's my first nebula attempt so cut me some slack if it's not very good because I am still working on it.

Nice lighting and glow effects on the Deimos and cool glows on the Rakshasas.

I'd go though the Deimos model and find the turret debris though, it looks kinda out of place ;)  I'd also dump the reflection lighting on the Rakshasas, it'd bring out the glows a bit more.

Ok Thanks. Are you talking about the Deimos-Rakshasa render or the Psamtik render? I know that nebulas may be a bit odd, but I am working on it.

Both renders look good, however in the second one the Shivan beam seems a little... I dunno, squared off too sharp in the explosion. Like you can tell it's a flat edge at the end of the beam. Maybe if you expanded the explosion a smidge to cover it up. Other than that itsy bitsy nitpick,

Post by: StratComm on October 08, 2003, 05:12:53 am
I dunno, makes it look more like thebeams in FS2 to me :p

Seriously though, covering the end of the beam with one round explosion rather than an oblong one will fix the problem.

Ok I'll try to fix it. :p
By the way, here's another render that I made last night. It's from the mission where you assault the SJ with Bakha bombers. I know the background may not be the "exact" one from the mission, But I kinda liked that new one I made.
One of this picture is without noise effects and the other has a little of it so tell me what you think.

Didn't want to post both pictures in same post because I didn't want to overload the page for those who have 56K.

Well ok. The beams are not made in 3d because I don't know how. I started using this progie from January this year so I can't make 3d beams. And beams in FS2 aren't exactly 3d so this fits em right. And I saw that 99% of renderers make their beams in Photoshop, so what's wrong with that? Mine are not made in Paint or something. :blah:

beams are bloody easy in photoshop.. and can make a half-way decent lightsaber:nod:

I made a lightsaber blade for 2 seconds using a plugin. Damn easy, but it doesn't work with beams because the plugin can't exactly rotate the glowing stick. I can show you an example.
