Title: Variations in Shivan style? Why?
Post by: Starks on October 04, 2003, 11:44:30 am
Why are the SFr Asmodeus, SFr Mephisto, and ST Azrael not the signature Shivan red?

(Also, is there a Shivan Support Ship?)

1) dunno, IIRC :V: wanted to make shivans purple and green first...
2) no, not by :V: anyway.

Is there a user-made Shivan support?

Hostiles can't call in support anyway, AFAIK

What's special in the Azrael? It is grey-red like any other Shivan ships!

I think he's moaning about the green and purple colours of the Asmodeus and Mephisto. No other Shivan ships are green or purple!

i think he wants to know if there's a shivan support so he can make missions where you have shivan allies that can reload (they can't normally)

well, most terran ships are gray and white, but a few like the Artemis DH aren't. and the vasudan support ship is different, too. so the shivans aren't the only ones with oddball ships.

Well, the Vasudan fleet is pretty mixed anyway when it comes to design trends, especially in terms of strike craft.  You can still clearly tell they are all Vasudan though.  I can't say the same about the Asmodeus and Mephisto though.  (The Azrael, though, does look Shivan, and with relatively little modification could be a shivan support ship).  Why V didn't take the time to retexture the freighters to look, well, shivan is completely beyond me.

The initial Shivan color was green actually.  Its likely both of those vessels were designed (along with the Basilisk) before many of the others.

The same goes for the Ulysses which was designed as a Terran vessel before Terran style was really put together (thus its fighter01.pof).  It looked Vasudan enough and it was added back into the game.

Interesting how these things play out eh? :)

I have made an attempt to create (or improvise) a Shivan support ship by copying the table file of a conventional support ship, then giving it the pof for the Azrael and copying a few other key entries from the transport to the new support ship... subsystems, weaponry, performance, maneuverability and explosion... although some where augmented to suit its new duties.  One downside is no shields.  I haven't had the chance to test it, but I'll have to make use of the set-support-ship sexp to ensure I get this one and not the Hygia as default.

Later!

I thought it had shields...

anyway, hows this for a "reason" there not military craft, and much like our civilian cargo transports are not made out of depleted uranium, shivan freightors are mad out of something diferent from the fighters

(now this ignors the fact that I don't think we have encountered anyhting that the shivans would consider military grade, but that is just my own personal opinion)
