I got the urge to make a big imposing installation yesterday, originally a slowly-spinning disc/cylinder something with lots of very tiny lights for scale. But as I modeled, the main design feature jumped out at me and sort of negated the whole slowly turning idea. Oh well.
Anyway, here's what I have so far. The limited audience that has already seen it says it looks small and like an excercise machine. What do you think, and how should I improve it?

lots of long thin pointy thingys, comething out of the bottom, that's what I always do :)

Throw in those lights, dude, I think they might help. Also, the perspective you've got (several kilometres away, I gather) doesn't help - makes it look a lot smaller. I personally think the design is fine, long thin pointy things would work well, maybe add a few more concentric ridges on the top side. :nod:

put in some greebles in the inside of some of the geometry, don't wory about the poly count :)

I suppose it may be cool, but I don't like those slick startrek-like designs like that, so you don't wanna ask me :p

I always wanted to see Vasudan ships with big thin bands like on the back of this ship on them. Tastefully, of course. :)

yeah, but that is alien ( or at least looks like it ). StarTrek ships look like they come from planet Bandai© :p

Bah, forget scale. Textures make scale. As for the design, add some non-symetrical elements on the top, like some towers of some kind. As for the design itself, I give it :yes::yes:

Looks like a spaceship terminal (Aside from having no way for ships to dock. ;))

well I like it.. but it needs more stationy things, like towers and such.

I kinda like it - not too cluttered. All it's missing are turrets, fighter bays, and c3 shrubbery. The textures can fill in a lot of detail.

If you had long "horizontal" platforms pointing outwards from the side of the station that would break it's roundness somewhat.
I think of smg. like the Arcadia's big platform.
That was an ideal place to pack cargo and dock several crafts at once without the need for difficult manuevers to enter a bay.

farscape, not going to even try spelling the name of the ship though I do know it
maybe some docking strustures would make it look better

Bring the "butresses" that support the outer structure on out past the outer structure.
How big is it supposed to be?
If it's for in-game, it ok.
If it's for render work always try to have something like an Orion or something near it for scale.

I think the ship's name is Moya.
And get rid of the spars on the ship, Sandwich. Make it look too sleek. Add some docking rings and such.

Ok, I've been texturing the belt buckle (;)), tell me what you think. I'm going to add some spires and perhaps a bit of localised greebling after I finish texturing.
Dunno about landing platform arm thingies, though.

Sandwich, that's one hell of a nice installation. It looks, in my opinion, professional quality. No two ways about it.
You should change your title to 'Got Station' for this and the Asteroid. :D

Now that's what I'm talking about - perspective's bang-on (might be finished off by putting in an Orion somewhere nearby), and those textures really do the job. :yes:

I also see six obvious locations for heavy beam turrets - a big station should be able to defend itself - i always thought the arcadia was a POS
give her a minimal ability to move - so we can order her to stand still, use her beam cannons and she won't shift

I plan on replacing one of the docking bay bulges with a hexagonal hole that just so happens to be the right size to fit the GTExD / GTExE I made way back when. :D
