Title: Looking for hi-poly Mjolnir...
Post by: Raptor on October 06, 2003, 08:18:35 am
A long time ago, I say renders of a Uber high-poly Mjolnir around here.  I think it was done by Ryx.

Now I've tried 'Search', no luck.  Does anyone have any pics/links ?

Thanks guys. Sorry Mikhael :nervous:

I was thinking of using it as a guide for detailing a new Mjolnir I've made, for in game use. ;7

The :V: one is, frankly, junk :ick

One question: the tech descripsion says that the Mjolnir has 2 beam cannons and 3 missile bays.  I've got the main cannon and the missile bays sorted, but were should the second cannon go? I was thinking on the bottom, oppoiste the main gun. Any thoughts people?

I still have the model. I might even have some pics. If you want I can upload them or the 'spin up' AVI I did. Darkage should still have the animations of the RBCs firing too.

Thanks Mikhael, If you could do so in this thread:

that would be great.

Oh, and any comments about the new version would be greatly appreciated. ;)

And I'll post them here, just because.

that thing doesn't even need any textures. just give it a good reflectance shader+colors and it's big-screen-movie worthy. again, excellent job, Mikhael. I would make the cylinders rounder though. 50 to 100 sided. other than that, beautiful.

now where did that high-poly herc go?

How many polies is that?

*glances in the direction of the HT&L SCP build*

oooh i likes it.  too bad its way to many polies for HTnL

on another note, FS needs an advanced patcom ;)

Heh. Everything needs an AdPat. ;)

Seriously, as was mentioned elsewhere, that thing could come down to 10-15k polys easy, just by killing some nurnies. As for it being rounder: I agree. Next time I work on it, I'll take it up to 50 (its only 24 or 36 segment cylinders right now)

The Herc1 is still on my hard drive. When I look at it, the cockpit is screwy and needs some serious work. Also, the cutouts on the sides of the engine pods are driving me nuts. Most importantly, though, I think I might kill off some of the fine details that you can't even see in the renders and simplify them so I can spend those polys elsewhere. That model is around 50k polys last I looked, so it gets... er... cumbersome to work with (I like working in solid shaded modes).

I wanna see the animations... :p :D  Are they online?

I don't know if Darkage's are. I know for a fact my one 'spin up' animation is not. I'll take some time and rerender it one of these days.

I really ought to figure out a decent way to render 'blueprint' style images. I think this'd look cool done up that way.

One of these days I'll actually finish the ol' Hammer. She's got no less than seven internal work areas that need to be detailed and the beam reaction chamber as well. The beam reaction chamber is actually THERE, but it lacks the extraneous stuff that I'd like to see in there, like the particle injectors, etc.

On a side note, if I find the time, I'll cut down some polys on this thing and put together an HT&L version so you guys can use it for the Upgrade Project if you like.

I deleted them from the server.

But i did make a small simple one yesterday. It's abit dark and has some glicthes, it was a 5 min job.
