Title: FSUpgrade status
Post by: Martinus on October 07, 2003, 01:02:58 pm
[color=66ff00]Just for those who are looking to know how we are coming along and had inital interest in the project; the plot jury are currently looking through a bunch of plot ideas (my own included, wish me luck :) ) but we'd like more.

If you have an interesting idea for a 10 or so mission campaign; you don't need to be able to script missions, just know what is and isn't possible in FRED with the FSSCP additions, then email it to me and I'll pass it onto the jury for consideration (I'm not part of the jury so bribes won't have any effect ;) ).

Try to steer away from the usual cliches and make it as fresh and interesting as you can. Thanks all. :)

mmm, idea's, hard.

what about a small revolution in some backwater system, with the pilot ojn the GTVA side and the GTVA commiting genocide like things, and the pilot having to choose?

or is that too cliche?

How about a bunch of renegade shivans that separated themselves from the hive?

I think the general plot for FS2.9 would work well. Years after the Great War, a subspace node to Shivan space is found/created. The GTVA sends a large complement of its newest warships, fighters, etc to conduct an armed exploration of Shivan space.

Plenty of excuses for new ships on both sides. :D

So they could do what, exactly? Grow Turnips? :p You need to put more detail into it before it can be classed as an idea.

Come on! We've had the Neo Terran Front, Hammer of Light, Galactic Terran Intelligence, and the Earth Alliance... I think it's about time we had RENEGADE SHIVANS!

A bunch of Shivans break off from the hive and the xenocidal mentality. They cast off their values and start to think of themselves as individuals... Stealing Shivan supplies, cap ships, fighters, bombers, and gaining followers. I would call them Crimson Rogues.

It's 71 years after Capella went supernova. A couple days before the Second Beta Aquilae Convention (SEBAC), the GTVA's third fleet converges on the Vega node to make the jump to Beta Aquilae. Shivan activity was not uncommon in that area and the GTVA came prepared... Maybe not well enough. An aged and battleworn Ravana escorted by 3 Molochs and a mixture of Shaitans and Taurvis exit subspace being pursued by 2 Beasts and their fighter cover...

:wtf: The shivans aren't the Borg. We aren't going to **** them over. Besides, why would they be there anyways? All the shivans were in Capella...

Okay, let's keep the SEBAC thing and have the GTVI building another monstrous super weapon...

Out of curiosity Maeg, are we going to be releasing the losing stories? Or will that be up to the individual writers?

I voted for a sequel at first, but now I'm rooting for a side-story. Therefore, we won't contradict any current campaigns (namely Inferno and such)

[color=66ff00]Although I am only the orchestrator of this project I have to admit that I'm strongly opposed to the side story idea for FSUpgrade, it simply doesn't allow us to move forward the way a story based at a later time will.

how about a sort of NTF Remnent (don't know about the spelling there), sort of a cross between Jedi Outcast and HW Cataclysm ?
(Taidan perspective). Sort of.

as a side issue, how about FS2 style squadron changes, but you could choose between Fighter/Assualt/Bomber only Squadrons ?
(ie, once you made a choice you had to stick with it, or somethin' like that)

Well, whatever people choose to do, it will have to stay within the bounds of the FS2 code. I think what is most important right now is a believable background to the story, then we can start worrying about details as SCP becomes more and more complete.

I'd like to see the HOL make a comeback...
Title: FSUpgrade status
Post by: karajorma on October 08, 2003, 03:46:42 pm
I wouldn't. Doomsday cults that have already failed to predict one apocolypse are beyond stupid.

The HOL worked in FS1 cause the shivans were new. I'd imagine they'd have trouble recruiting after a second shivan incursion failed to wipe out the GTVA :D

What I'm hoping for is a coup among the PVN ranks which rips the GTVA apart at the seams.

Post by: karajorma on October 08, 2003, 04:18:23 pm
That's fair enough. Just don't make it the HOL again. :)

Maybe we can incorporate SEBAC (Second Beta Aquilae Convention) and the declaration of war by the tyrannical Emperor Khonsu IV against all Terrans.

The reformed Vasuda Prime Empirium (VPE) versus the GTA which is now called the Gamma Solaris Coallition (GSC)

Two words:

another specie

Ideas:
-Ancient Remnants
-Pre Subspace culture
-Pre Shield culture
-Post Shivan culture - someone who did survive a shivan attack - either advanced (they beat them onece like the GTA did the first time) or a very bashed and spent (they lost - the survivors tried to make a living)
-Two new species - at war with each other

Mix those with either Shivans or Ancients coming down on either of them, and you have a situation full of moral issues...
An explosive bed for a branching and motivating story.

(-Should I shoot those transports? After all they were rumored to carry frozen colonists on-board...
-Why should I agree with conquering this race?
-Why not surrender to a race whose technology is better, with Shivans lurking it would be worth it...)

I've been writing like mad the last few days to try to finish up my fanfic/capaign idea.  At this rate, I should have a story to present to you, and everyone else, in a few days.

I don't think its too cliched, at least that was my goal when I set out to do this thing over 3 years ago.  (Ugh, I know, I'm slow, but I've had some serious time avaible lately)

The story I have follows the plotline, but is also a side story, leading back into the plotline as it goes.  I don't want to release details yet, because I want everyone to enjoy whole thing and plus I don't want to get discouraged from completing it.  ;)

I was planning on coming to this forum and posting about it when I was done anyways.  In the meantime, feel free to check in on my rarely-updated, craptacular web page.   http://www.gb-blackknight.com/FS2.html  I posted a note on my forum as to about how long it might be as well...

Well, there could be the topic from my scuttled Rise of GCA campaign, which contains enough elements for a full fledged sequel...
I can e-mail it to you if you want

Bad luck Fellas. Jury votes closed Friday, and Maeg's plot came through winner by a whisker. Work should be beginning soonish.

Unfortunately, FREDders=Scarce Right now. ods you'll find, but the FREDding talent is pread a little thin right now.

However, if you want to help someone else FRED a campaign...

*Points to Twisted Infinities*.
