Before I start I'll say that I have searched your forums, since about 7:45 this morning trying to find an answer...
I've got the sound issues (See other thread) but now the game is REALLY jerky.
I have to run in 95/98 mode or my afterburners don't work.
I've got the latest patch (v1.20) and my drivers are upto date.
My system specs are enough to swallow any game whole pretty much, so it ain't that...
Please help peeps, I'm dying to finish this game again as I only got a quick run through the first time... :(

:welcome:
*raised eyebrow* First, welcome to HLP dude - secondly, all I can think of that makes FS2 jerky is when something is running in the background on my computer (like spyware). Run task manager and see if you can find anything drawing away your resources.
-
No that is so friggin obvious. I'm going to go beat myself with a stick now.
Cheers for the welcome BTW. :)
-
also running on XP (i presume, since you said 95/98 mode :) ;) ) there's some things you need to do i believe, i've never payed attention since i don't run XP, but someone will reply here and tell you how
And welcome to HLP. hope you enjoy your stay :)
*waits*

Well, I've never had any probs running it under XP, I don't even need to use a 95/98 mode :)
Sounds like either
1) Background running, you've checked this one.
2) Virtual Memory issues.
3) Graphics Card issues (Which I doubt if your system is as powerful as you say).
Other than that, I'm really all out of ideas, sorry :(

Well, I'm about to check back ground stuff now. Same thing happened to me a while ago, someone downloaded something onmto my HD and it automatically started everytime I booted up, but I didn't know. Bastard things.
How could I check VM issues?
Could be graphics card? Doesn't FS2 have problems with GeForces?
My last PC had a GeForce 3, this is a GeForce 4?
-
There can be a problem with GeForce 4 cards, but it's the font, it shouldn't effect gameplay.
As for VM, first check free disc space, if theres loads left, theres probably no problem there, but just in case, the settings are in 'Settings' --> 'Control Panel' ----> 'System' ----> 'Performance'

I've got an 80gb HD< and I'm using, oh... about 12 gb... I think I have enough. :D
-
LOL Yep, that should be fine. It's worth a look anyway, just to see how much the system has allocated itself, sometimes it will take ridiculously large or small amounts of discspace, and both of them can cause problems :)
Flipside :)

768mb. Should be enough
-
Yep, it should, sounds to me like either a DirectX issue or a lurker :(
Flipside :D
-
Lurker possibly. I've just ran teh X2 demo and that ran ****e. I'm getting rid this GeForce MX440se. Bag of crap apparently.
-
It should be powerful enough to run FS2 however. Have you tried running AdAware or spybot to check for lurking programs?
-
No... not even heard of them!
Are they something you have to install, or something that you can run once?
-
Install. A google search will turn them both up as they are fairly popular (I don't have links to either cause I've never needed them).
They search your computer for spyware which can sometimes cause performance problems. I believe Spybot is supposedly the better but AdAware is the more famous.
-
31! I've just run it and got 31 one "reds"!
Sweet jesus they're going...
-
OK, I'm using the X2 demo as a tester here...
Well, I just tried the benchmark again... hmmm...
This time I hit a new high of 80FPS, and a new low of 1.9 fps (I **** you not)
The scene with the low FPS is the one with the man drifting.
I can't view the summary screen as my system goes into a black screen after the demo. :(
When I shut down it said the remote something or other had failed.
Maybe RCP? Not sure, only flashed up quickly.
I'm ripping my hair out here...
