I was thinking earlier today, that most of the current campaigns out there lack voice acting. I've heard it said that its alot harder than one would think and I'd be inclined to agree, even though I haven't tried it myself. In any case, one of the main things voices benefits from is having recurring voices with names to them, like admirals, briefing officers, and (in the case of Bosch) villains. If many campaigns in progress are trying to concieve their characters, from time to time it may help the creative process to pick real people out there, actors for example, to try to indicate what type of voice you'd like for your characters. This thread is to suggest, even if its toung in cheek, what existing actors you feel would be good for certain campaigns, or even who would make good voice actors for any FS campaign.
A couple came to mind today, one of which I can't put a name to. He's a high class reporter for one of the major american stations. I don't think he's a news anchor because he always seems to be on location. In any case, he has quite a deep voice and has this way of overpronouncing his "p"'s. This would make it quite amusing to have him as an admiral or briefing officer, just to hear him pronounce "Delta SerPENtus". :D
Another example uses an FS2 voice vetran, the one and only Kurtwood Smith. Now, I don't know everything about all the campaigns out there (just now starting Inferno), but from what I've heard DEM has some comedic elements to it. Give Kurtwood a position say as a Captain of a prominent corvette or destroyer, but include elements of his "Red Forman" character from "That 70's Show". When you and your wingmen botch a certain opperation he can call you all a bunch of "Dumbasses". :D
Well, let's hear your suggestions.
Later!

S(h)ean Connery. He's(h) good for anyt(sh)hing

In my little mini campaign thing I made, Delta Three is played by Jason Statham. Delta one is played Kristen Cloke and Delta Four is played by my mate Big Gay Mike
-

You already got the next best thing here Stu ;)
-
Laurence Fishburne as the guy from Command.
Clint Eastwood and Robert Carlyle (good call, aldo! :) ) as Admiral Bosch and Admiral Koth.
Om Puri as an admiral.
Samuel L. Jackson and Denzel Washington as some random badasses.
The guy who plays Tony Snr. in the Sopranos as a random NTF guy, so he can go "F*** you!" :D
-
gary oldman as mad villain.
-
Tim Curry as Ad. Bosch ;)
Flipside :D
-
Good call Flip. No! Christopher Walken as Bosch!
-
I'm thinking a different voice actor everytime bosch says something...
-
The 'unfettered access' line should be read by Barry Chuckle
-
I couldn't agree more.
Sean Pertwee would make a good cruiser captain, I reckon.
Tom Baker as some form of narrator.
Pat Sharpe would have to feature, as well.

I feel that way too. How did such a cool game slip through the cracks unnoticed? I only heard of it when I did a Google search for Carrier Command and found lots of links to a similar game.
I'd best not talk about it anymore or I'll end up reinstalling it for the 3rd time and I really don't have the time to play it again :)
-
I've got it too!
Get's a little repertative once you've played it though for the 5th or 6th time, but still great! (but theres always room for improvement:nervous: )
But yes, Tom Baker is good, Sean Connery is still great, the others from Hostile Waters (can't remember their names) would also be good.
Others:
Pierce Brosnen (argh, Damm my spelling!:hopping: ) - Experianced Pilot
Buce Boxilienter - Gun-ho Warship captain (aka Sheridan!)
.......:doubt:
Minds gone kinda blank.......
-
well, Silvester Stalone in some depressed mode as alpha 2, if you need a depressed guy going "oh crap"nothing can beat him.
same goes for something Belusci, i think his name was.
-
John Belusci? The dead one?
-
John?
-
Belusci is dead?
he played in "The Principal" BTW. i saw him in few other roles.
-
Yes, he's dead, unfortunately ( That's the one from the Blues Brothers, right? )
-
Hey, you have to have R.D.A... Without him, it just isn't good...

I wish I could find Hostile Waters n some bargain bin, 'cause I can't find it anywhere else. I loved the demo, but was never able to get the full game. *ahem*

I've seen copies over here on sale in the stores for a tenner. It was re-released a while back. When ever I see it I move it to a higher place on the shelf so that more people see it :D
-
Hostile Waters was brilliant, I bought the release version and still play it from time to time, but I think it will go down the same road as Freespace as far as a long awaited sequel is concerned :( Pity really, if it had had multiplayer support, it would have gone a long long way.
Flipside :D

must have Christopher Walken for FS 3.14159

FreeSpace flavored pie?!?!

Multiplayer on that game would have been absolutely brilliant. Plus there are few games better suited to multiplayer. Head to head would be good but imagine a TvT or co-operative game with 2 players swapping between craft!
BTW did anyone ever become a better shot than Ransom? He was always better than me but had a bad habit of biting off more than he could chew.
-
LOL Had the same problem, you'd look away for a minute and next thing you knew, he'd wandered halfway across the map and was trying to take out AA Guns. Who oh why couldn't he leave it up to Patton.
Ah Well, maybe someday, someone will play the game who can code and think... 'Hmmmmmmmm....' ;)
Team V Team, would have been absolutely awesome, especially with a large pool of AI's to put into your craft, that way each team could select their personas from a list at the beginning :) That way the players could either view from the Map Screen and leave the AI to it, or jump into the vehicle and go :D
Flipside :D

Hmm, we need a Hostile Waters fat-chewing thread.
Is it me, or was Kenzie a lesbian?
Anyway, Joe Pesci as Bosch.
-
Maybe that's why I always ended up partnering her with Borden :D Maybe somewhere in the back of my mind I was hoping they would get it on :)
What really annoyed me is that some of the soul capture personas were in it for such a short time. I mean you only get Elroy for two missions and you don't get Kenzie for much longer.
Still at least they give you Patton and Ransom early on :)
Also did anyone complete the final mission the same way I did? Forget about making Sharks and Phoenixes. I just put a bunch of turrets on the deck and recycled them every time they got damaged :D

:D Just what I did. 2 turrets with the howitzer, one with the missile launcher. I did build myself a chopper, though, so I coudl zoom around.

My bad, that's Belushi in the Blues Brothers :p

Here's another one for voices... John Savage. If the name doesn't ring a bell, he played the caracter Liedecker (sp?) from "Dark Angel" and Captain Ransom on the Star Trek: Voyager 2-parter "Equinox". He's got a rather raspy voice, making him great for a villain role.

This John Savage?

trivial psychic has a point too. he'd probably suit pretty fine as an fs villain.

Same here, I tend to use a Vulture in that mission, fit it with Warhammer, and you a have a LETHAL high allitude bomber. It can go higher than the AA guns can fire! Tin-foil for armour though, but very, very fast!
And I agree, TvT mutliplayer would be great, but what would be really cool would be if you could take control of the Cabal or 'Alien' sides, and build their units! 3 Way battle anyone?:thepimp:
Anyway, back OT:
Sarah M Gellar - panicky young civlian/pilot
Harrison Ford - old school warship captain
'Chap who played Commander Adama' from Battlestar Galatica - really old admiral (proberly dead now, but he did play that role well, at least in the movie)
Mel Gibson - cocky fighter pilot
Rene Russel - confident fighter pilot
To be fair, it's hard to characterise films stars to fit the FS personas. The best way would be to have them try various roles and see which one fits (as if we could:rolleyes: )
-
Chris Barrie (Rimmer) as some science vessel captain.
Craig Charles and Danny John Jules as mercs.
