Simple. Nominate your top three movies of all time, and I'll compile a list of HLP favourites. Because, I have nothing better to do. For fun, discuss ****, and I'll review the results on friday. Also list them 1-3 (no 'no particular order' shiznit)
My top 3:
1. LOTR: Two Towers
2. Monty Python and the Life of Brian
3. Amadeus
-
I couldn't say to save my life :/
I have many movies in my top3, if you know what I mean
-
You've put TTT above Fellowship? Tis a fine movie but it's not better.
-
1 - The Princess Bride
2 - Terminator 2
3 - a tie between Shrek / Rat Race / Zoolander
-
Look! A drifter!
-
Casablanca?

-
1. Twin Dragons (Jackie Chan)
2. Monsters Inc.
3. Finding Nemo
Ahhh, Jackie Chan... I could watch Twin Dragons a million times, it's that good. :D
-
heeey Finding Nemo was an awesome movie!
one of the best animated movies i've ever seen...
-
Ditto. The fact that a lot of it was set in Australia just made it funnier for me. ;)

1. Star Wars series(any of them)
2. Predator series(both 1 and 2 are very good)
3. Alien 4
Matrix didn't take my interest much.

actually it's one of the worst movies i've ever seen.
And IPAndrews: Brazil, what was that movie about? i've heard a lot about it
-
To all you Zoolander bashers (KT and Stealth), it's simply a movie that grows on you. I didn't like it all that much the first time around, but the more I saw it (been around 4-5 times now), the more I appreciate the genius of it.

i can't believe i'm agreeing with this guy :p ;)
I just didn't like it much... maybe if i see it a second, and maybe a third time i'll like it more... i will try it though, in the next few weeks ;)

1.) Memento- A phenominal piece of filmmaking.
2.) Star Wars original trilogy- before Lucas f***ed it up.
3.) The Nightmare Before Christmas- best soundtrack, concept, artistic style, animation, etc.
Most of the Tim Burton films would make my top 10. :)
-
Yeah Momento was very cool. I just love the bit where he's supposed to be waiting for someone but forgets and gets caught taking a shower instead :D
-
Is Solaris any good?
It’s a tragic love story, very heavy on emotion and philosophy. Focusing on just four complex and screwed up main characters. Done quietly with no action and lots of flashbacks. Most people will hate it. I loved it. So did my girlfriend actually. I haven’t seen the original.
What was Brazil about?
Jonathan Pryce is an office worker in a 1984esque future who likes to avoid trouble by keeping his head down. He falls in love with factory worker Kim Greist and a fly falls into a fax machine. Suddenly his life starts to spiral out of control and eventually fall apart.
-
Well, if you had watched the original, you'd know, that the remake basically ****ed up every point Stanislaw Lem wanted to make.
In short: watch Tarkovski's version. Now THAT'S good.
-
Seven samurais (akira Kurosawa
Yojimbo
Matrix
matrix:reloaded
-
if you wanna scare the crap out of yourself.. i suggest
Dagon...
Dagon's one based off H.P Lovecraft (nuff said)

Yes I plan on watching the original some time. It sounds like a very different film. I don't expect to enjoy it as much. I hope I'm wrong though.

The general rule of thumb is that the original work is better than anything it spawns - if it's a movie based on a book, the book is better. And if it's a novelization of a movie, then the movie's better.
-
Call me a loser, but I wanna see the Lion King again...
-
Hmm....
1. Princess Bride
2. LotR:FotR
3. Hmm.... Not sure what to put here
-
:D
1. Return of the Jedi
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. A New Hope (Star Wars)
Seriously now,
1. The Princess Bride (I'm surprised that others here have seen it)
2. The Matrix
3. LotR: Fellowship
^^ I didn't think too long or hard about this, some of my other favorite movies are: Minority Report, The Sting, Ocean's Eleven (new version), Star Trek: First Contact, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Patton, the other matrix and LotR movies.
-
The Princess Bride? everyone's seen the princess bride :D

Let's just say this to your comment that other's haven't seen the Princess Bride: Inconceivable!
*Waits for follow-up line*
-
I haven't. I don't think...
-
*can't think of a follow-up line to "Inconceivable"*
;)

Preposterous!
-
The answer, of course, was "I do not think that word means what you think it means."
-
'"Ever heard of Aristotle, Socrates, Plato?" "Yes" "Morons all of them."'
Before anyone else says it:
Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
-
Now I'll do the follow-up quotes to that:
Inigo Montoya: "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father: prepare to die. Now, offer me money. "
Count Rugen: "Yes."
Inigo Montoya: "Power too. Promise me that."
Count Rugen: "All that I have and more. Please... "
Inigo Montoya: "Offer me everything I ask for."
Count Rugen: "Any thing you want."
Inigo Montoya: "I want my father back, you son of *****."
-
"Are you sure there is no one following us?" "I told you already that would be totally and completely inconceivable. Out of curiosity why do you ask?" "I just looked behind us and happened to notice we are being followed."
Inigo: I hope Vizzini doesn't mean any harm
Fezzik: He seems a little short on charm.
Inigo: Fezzik, are there rocks ahead?
Fezzik: If there are, we all be dead!
Vizzini: No more rhymes, now I mean it!
Fezzik: Anybody want a peanut?
Vizzini: Yells

Prince Humperdinck: Surrender!
Westley: You mean you wish to surrender to me? Very well, I accept.
Westley: There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours.
Inigo Montoya: I could give you my word as a Spaniard.
Westley: No good. I've known too many Spaniards.
That movie has so many great quotes. :)

"Aaaaasssss yooooouuuu wiiiiisssshhhh....!"
"I'm not a witch, I'm your wife!"
"Give us the gate key." "W..w...what gate key?" "Fezzik, tear his arms off." "Ooh! You mean this gate key!"

Sorry, I should have mentioned that that rule of thumb is primarily for video -> written word and vice versa.
Besides, rules of thumb are not writ in granite - they're general patterns that tend to be true more often than not. :)

Hey, I like the movie, you know.

Me too, and I still hope they make a second feature film. But the series just expands it sooo well... I guess I can't really compare 150 hours of series with 2 hours of movie, but... Jack and Teal'c make me laugh. ;)
-
1) X2 X men united
2) Two towers
3) Matrix 2 :p :drevil:

You can even say ten of your favourites, nobody obligates you to say only three. We are living in a free forum, your post won't be erased or edited because you posted more than three of your favourite films.
In addition, I don't think anybody would ask from you 'Why'

Nemesis wasn't bad. At least it beat ST:TMP, ST V: The Final Frontier, and Insurrection. I mean, hell, it's an even-numbered film. Automatically beats most of the odd-numbered films.

Rent? Yeah, if for nothing but the special effects and one of the best space battles I've seen so far. But don't expect an amazing movie. :)

Undiscovered Country: Personally, I think so, but it's been ages since I've seen TUC.
First Contact: Not quite... ;)

Yes. Great special effects and action sequences. However, I agree with most of the people here that the story needs more work.
-
It might have been better if they had included some of those deleted scenes. They might have added a bit to the story.
-
Yes.. like the parts explaining why half the crew were to leave.. :blah:

I've loved every movie I've seen by them but I still have a couple I've not seen. I suspect they'll get some more attention now since their latest film is much more commercial.

I don't think that is needed, right? The main focus of the show should be about the main characters of the Enterprise and not the extras who are in the movie as the crewmembers walking around the ship.
-
You do know that Riker, Troi, and Crusher aren't comming back as mains, right? The only one who really shouldn't be there anymore is Worf. How the hell did he get back on the Enterprise anyways? I thought he was only on in FC because of the crippled defiant.. :wtf:
-
They'll be calling him jinxo soon enough. Every time he turns up they get into 2 hours worth of trouble :D
-
I think the storyline is that Worf basically became frustrated with being an ambassador, so he resumed his commission in Starfleet and was assigned as Security Officer/Tactical on the Enterprise.

Klingons aren't exactly big fans of politics I guess. They prefer blowing, dicing, shooting and slicing something up.

Actually, it DOES have new effects. The shield effects have been changed. The photo torpedo and quantum torpedo are no more the shining ball of rotating light rays but rather more like bolts which make it sometimes hard to distinguish which are torpedos and which are disruptor bolts.
