Title: Entertain me
Post by: Stryke 9 on October 14, 2003, 08:46:09 pm
Because it is the one ultimate aspiration in your lives. Admit it. And, since it involves me, it's a damn good one, might I add.

Irritating as certain individuals here are people on average here don't suck nearly as badly at the whole CG bit as, say, the guys on Renderosity, and I'm momentarily sick of sifting through crappily-made Poser porn and poorly textured cubes entitled "m1 FursT R3|\|Dar" for something I can actually get ideas from.

So. Models. Renders. Make it a contest- see if you can one-up my at least somewhat l33t skills now that I have a civilized program and an inhuman amount of fuck-off time. Here's a starter, because the other ones are gonna take a day or so to render properly, and as I recall nobody here does anything until someone else goes and does it first.

Winner gets... oh, I dunno, I find something nice to say about them. That or something free from my computer they could probably download themselves, only different because I just pulled it off of my hard disk as a convenient prize. Whichever. Steak is not barred from the competition because even though he can still top all but a few people I've seen at it he hasn't done anything so far because apparently you people let him off his job as render monkey, which I recall specifically warning you against. Sheesh, next you'll be feeding him after midnight, and come crying to me when there get to be 500,000,000 of him and they're all evil.

Oh, and just to kill two birds with one stone- Stealth, keep it up with the PMs. They were the funniest things I'd read all week, you crazy stalker you.

I've just spent the past week or so rendering/animating something that's been done earlier and better. :blah:

Hey, I like it.
Hmm, as for entertaining you... I have an idea involving canadian underwear and salmon sushi, but even I wouldn't fall that low.

Indeed, I only render, and I'm on haitus till mid-November, but... well, I like the design you put up. Oh, and please be a little more quiet about my secret 500M-Steak Army, it's-- well, it was secret. :p

Ooo! I present to you, my ..."1st stage high pressure turbine nozzel/stator of a CF6 high-bypass ratio General Electric Turbofan!"
Thankyou.

Its not textured, and its just rendered in Rhino. The mesh is a bit ****, note near the top of the blades the 'welded' effect didnt come out right. I have the nurbs form, so I can sort that out easily. Also i might start again with the blades.  For ease of construction I started with 2 curves to get the aerofoil shape, but thats caused problems blending edges and things.  I can do that again with one curve.
As far as rendering goes, i'll give it a metalic texture and a bit of shine, then crunch out something reasonable with Truespace (though its just v3.2).  Might have a few problems though, the mesh seen above is ~123000 polys, and that will only increase.

Finally! Something!

Welds are hard. If Rhino has a noise mesh distorter, fiddle around with that and smoothing to get that lumpy sort of thing most welds have. Rest of the model looks pretty good- convincing bit of metal widgetry for some ship-type thing.

noise mesh distorter eh? I'll have a look. I've redone quite a bit of it, so its looking better. I might just attack the mesh randomly, though i'll look for a truespace plug-in that might do it.
