According to FSURP the date for the discovery of subspace is 2313. Was that just a guess or is there any hard evidence of when subspace was first used?
-
AFAIK, there is no canon account of the first use of subspace - but the date itself, I'm quite sure, is from V.
-
Any idea where V stated it? I'm in a discussion about this over on Spacebattles and it's always nice to back up your claims with solid fact :D
-
The Freespace Reference Bible. I think it's still on the main FS1 site somewhere.
-
I think it was stated in the Tech rooms of one of the two games, under subspace ;)
-
wow. i didn't know the tech room had "Subspace" listed
-
Cha-ching. (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/datdb/KT/FreeSpaceRefBible.doc)
-
wow. he uploaded the entire reference bible. dude, you should make a website p1mping it.
-
Err.. done. (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/datdb/files.shtml)
Although, ideally, someone would put it on the FSURP page..

Oooh, FS stuff over at SB? This I gotta see, got a link? :)

So the GTA had colonized 9 major systems in 8 mere years?! The T-V war started ion 2321, so...
-
No....
Even during FS2 most of the colonies are just orbital stations or most likely spacestations in asteroid belts.
Only a handful of planets were ever colonised, and a couple of those were lost during the Great War.
By colonising systems all you should expect in the begining is an Arcadia to be towed into position.
-
Do I smell a "Discovery of subspace" campaign?
That'd be way-cool. Something covering the first few inter-system test flights, first-contact with the Vasudans and the first skirmishes leading up to the TV-War.

They begin with Subspace implemented AFAIK WW. An0ns onto something methinks as an addon campaign for the TVWP, or 158th Expositions. I'd also like to see a Development of Beams campaign - that could be fun, though your combat scenarios in both cases might be a little limited...
-
The project has a big suprise in its pocket...

Oddly enough it isn't actually the only FS2 question up on those boards (although the other is a technical query). FS2 gets mentioned fairly often over there. Especially on Best Game Ever threads :D

I've has a quick flick through and I can't see a definative date (in fact it's annoyingly vague).

Awww, I thought it was just pleased to see me.

I have always taken the stance that the 'discovery of subspace' line in the bible relates to the discovery of intersystem subspace, and that intrasystem subspace had been around for upwards of fifty years before that. It helps make GTA expansion more believable when they only have to hook a new drive to a few ships and ferry the rest to where they want to colonize.
-
i am fairely sure it says in the fs2 tech room that the intrasystem drive was discovered first

 Don't forget to pimp the SCP. ;)

I do. Every chance I can get. :) BTW the Inferno boys might want to look at spacebattles. They've got quite a few fans over there :D
