I already entered and I hope I win. :D

 All the best to ya, buddy. *sigh* I could really use that right now. :D
-
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
well that could be good secondary computer for me
-
It's actually nothing special.
Don't get me wrong - it's a nice rig and lots of people are running a lot worse. But at best it's a very good gaming machine. There's nothing out of the ordinary about any one of those components (except perhaps the artwork - that's pretty neat..)
I still wuv my machine.

hmm...
Well the components are way out of my wallete's reach. And that's what I was meaning. Heck if I win it I'm gutting my case and putting those components in it!
'Cuz I luw my case like Vasudans luw fishes.
-
Oh true, they're all great components. It's a nice setup - but the song and dance that advert makes about it just seems... well... wrong somehow :)
-
Well nice machine but they really are *****es. You can't enter the competition if you are outside of US.
-
I enterred too. :D Anything but Steaks PC is better than mine. :p

C'est la vie............
Oh, and am i the only person who gets pissed off by all the adverts by people like Dell or Pc World that purport to offer a 'stunbningly powerful P4 processor with hyperthreading technology!!!', but which don;t actually give motherboard type, RAM speed or type, HD size...etc - and usually have a ****ty integrated Intel graphics card, necessitating a £200+ purchase to bring the thing up to spec. Almost is bad is when they advertise an MX440 card as a top spec gaming card.
It's just cheap, shoddy salesship to force you to buy a new computer or upgrade when your graphics card can't handle the games you want - playing on the fact many people don't know about components (no shame in that, may i add) and trust the shops to tell them the truth. It pisses me off, cos i can;t trust any high street shop to give a good deal.

That's why I built mine. :drevil: And will continue to do so...

The processor beats most out there. If you read it, it says Athlon 64, not XP, so it beats everything below a 3.2C, which it is about the equal of, even with half the memory bandwidth.

You're right, it doesn't have Dual-Channel DDR. :hopping:
-
Even if the rest of it were crap, then who cares? Minimum, it's a free Athlon 64 processor. There aren't enough adjectives to describe how much a new one of them would cost.
-
:wtf:
Actually, that system is only about twice as fast as mine.
(Athlon XP 2600+,
Radeon 9700 Pro,
512Mb PC2100 DDR RAM,
40Gb HDD)
OK, the Athlon64 system has got a lot more storage space, but in terms of actual game speed, it'll probably only hit twice my framerate. And my rig is adequate for HL2 (on current showing, anyway), so I'm happy.
I'm looking at a RAM upgrade in the near future. Going for PC3200, and a new mobo. My spec described above is asssuming that I'm using a mobo capable of 333Mhz FSB, and mine isn't, so technically it's only an Athlon XP 2000+... So actually, the competition rig will probably triple my current framerates.
And getting a four figure framerate at 1280x1024 res in Quake 3 is pretty impressive even for an Athlon64...
-
I get single digit frame rates in Freespace. I'll take what I can get.

personally, one could canniblize that, and add better parts, etc to make it the ultimate ;)
-
Or one could just sell it on to a gullible individual and make a tidy profit.
After all, my Athlon 1.4 GHz and Voodoo 3 are all I'll ever need :P
-
Can I quote you on that?

There. :D

The good thing about having such a ridiculously slow machine as mine is that you can allow yourself to be constantly amazed at how cheap and fast PCs these days have become. It is my only source of self-encouragement I get these days. :D

Heh, mainly from DC, but never from The Array-ed One™...
And why cannibalize it? Stop complaining about the PC. Use it! I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!!111!1!1oneonetwoexclamationpointone

In response to LSD and Hotsnoj: That motherboard is one of the best out there for the A64. And no A64 has DC-DDR. The chip is what has the memory controller, not the motherboard.
So says the AMD fanboy.
And I wish it was the MSI instead of the Asus :p[/color]

um..yeah. It was more of a joke. I know that with those specs it wouldn't really matter if it had DC-DDR with the stuff I do. Heck I want it for Halo man!

I thought you serious. Sorry. And I think I'm going to edit that last post. It was a bit too hostile.

I try to keep up with tech, a geek so to speak.
And no offense taken, you didn't know. :D
