actually, i was following one of Greg martin's tutorials, so that is my first.. "hand made" starfield..

first off, the layer has to be set to linear dodge...(or screen if unavailable), fill with black then..
Filters -> Render -> Lensflare.. make a /reasonably/ bright one, (in the center) and transform (resize) as you see fit, also, move it around..

If you could make me one without the lensflares, in a large size (1152x864+) I'd be very appreciative. :D

I never said yours looked cheep. It looks excellent in this application, but in 3d renders it looks lame...
I like it in this. And this is 20x better than the first one I made.

thanks.. anyway, i got sick of the crappy ones i got using other methods/plugins...
and this was the result.. ;)

Well, you had more success with it than I did... though I'd recommend toning down the haze a little, and possibly adding a darker grayish uniform layer of it over everything, including the moon. Bit more realistic and all.
