Well, I can't help you there, but I think you'de better use the Max format, coz it allows groupings, which could be used for hierarchy... hem, in second thought, the element/object relation in 3ds could be used too, maybe?
-
I have no idea what you're talking about im not a 3DS modeler

Huh, the MAX format is rather closed as far as I know. I found some specs for the 3DS format, but enver found anything about the MAX format, so I guess that it would be quite hard.
And MAX files have the basic shapes and the modifiers, not the real mesh info, so it would imply in a LOT of processing to calculate the final format of the model...

Where may I find this "documentation"

And I'll see if I can find the 3DS format specs. I've wrote a 3DS reader once...
-
i have the SDK which shoud contasin all the info on .3DS and .MAX formats...of course thats' more geared towards writing a plugin to run in the MAX environment but i doubt it would be unadaptable to your needs (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
got it already RARed up..8mbs.

I found a location where you can download an export plug-in for 3ds so it exports in .cob format (instead of having to use 3dexploration). Will that help?

Kazan, has anyone sent you any of the stuff you need?
If you got this working it would definately be pretty damn cool/useful.

Indeed (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) No more Torture space! Nothing could make me more happy. If it could autogenerate the hierarchy too... (naming an object turret01 links it automatically to the objecy called LOD1) Yeah I know, I'm dreaming again (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
