Title: a ship
Post by: Nico on October 19, 2003, 10:16:32 am
since I won't be online much for quite some time starting soon, I thought I'd share my latest model ( well, pics of it :p ) :

Designation US/SG-14 Beattle
manufacturer: Hann Inc.

That's an utilitarian shuttle used for mining, repairing, hauling medium mass charges. it's not 100% complete ( lacks its manipulators and details in the mid section, where the 4 auxialiary engines join ), but it's good enough to be shown already.

nice, but i don;t exaclty get the purpose of the auxilarys. they seem a bit large for steering, and are oddly placed.

slowing down, and maneuvring while hauling big charges. they're articulated.
Plus I think it looks cool that way :p

it does like she is a ***** to steer, and banking is impossible with this setup.

banking impossible? rotate the two top engines to the right, the two down two the left, hop, banking clockwise.
anyway, those engines, as I said, are for when there's heavy things being moved, when the pilot needs serious thrust, otherwise the ship use regular gaz thinguies.
Bah, whatever anyway.

Nice model indeed... like claw. Can't really suggest anything to improve it... ... hmm maybe if you added navigation lights in the ends of those auxialirities... you know the blinking red and green ones :p

Geez, no star trek references on this one... it's far too cool for that.  Can't wait to see it with the manipulators.

not anytime soon, unfortunately, I'm away from home starting tomorrow evening. Besides, you pretty much see the final thing, there won't be any drastical changes anymore, just a few details added here and there. For the arms, imagine two quite large 3-sections arms hanging under the cockpit.

It is reminiscent of the Iwar2 tug, but only superficially.

Personally, Venom, I'd like to see some close up pics on those ball joints, and some more details, like hoses and pipes and stuff connecting the forward engines to the main body.

Design wise, I have to ask, what's the benefit of the four forward engines? If this is a worker/miner pod, how does it tow the cargo around (or am I just confused about how this is going to be used)?

Anyway, see you when you get back. :D
