:wtf:
I saw half of it load...then it turns into a red x. Well, the half I saw looked awesome.

918, 1021, and 732kb per image is BAAAAAD.

BAD size nice renders
-
Well it seems my DSL fears no image. I love them :)
-
those are awesome:)
-
remember: screen is your friend.
-
screen?
As for file size, jpg compression really killed it; probably will do thumbnails later tonight
-
It's difficult to compress because of the interlace overlay you placed on the renders - lots of extra detail which the JPEG algorithm has to deal with. That said, you should still be able to get them well under 1MB.
-
Which format do you recommend Steak? JPG still?
-
Use Photoshop (if thats what your doing) and use the Save for Web feature. Pic JPG and play with the settings. Best JPG compression around if you have the software.
Renders are great. One thing that bugs me is that those fighters are so nicely detailed and high poly...the capital ship is not.
-
Those are all in-game models for Exposition, so those fighters range from 400 to 700 polygons, both destroyers weigh in at 1200, but I see your point very much clearly. The problem with using that save for web dealy is that I'm using PSP, and I haven't quite figured out compression settings yet.

I am quite happy with the JPEG standard. Now, when you start out rendering, you will compress everything with ridiculously high-quality settings, because you are so concerned about how much you'll compromise of your pretty little render - that's natural for most people. I had to shake myself of this when GS told us that we were taking up too much space on the 3DAP servers. ;)
What I did was get one of my nicest renders and saved it at every compression level PSP will allow you (or in 5% increments, whatever is sensible - enough so that you get about 20 or 30 differently compressed images across the range). I named them according to their compression levels (eg. render_100pc, render_97pc for 100% quality & 97% quality respectively). Then get one of your friends to rename all the images randomly, ensuring that he notes down which is which. Then you sift through all the images manually, deleting all the ones you deem to be "too low" in quality - according to your eyes only, at zero magnification (so you can't zoom in and cheat). Then, once you've rooted out all the ones you think are too poor, get your buddy to rename them back. Pick the one which has been compressed the most and you'll often find it is a lot more heavily compressed than you give it credit for. And that will be your standard compression rate, or therabouts.

Um... Those fighters aren't high poly, believe me. The caps have more polys than the fighters for the most part.
The Kievs come in at about 1024 polys. The Minsk (the lone Minsk! :() comes in at about 290 polys. The Acheron comes in at about 600 polys. Finally the Lethes come in at about 570 each.
Its Narol's maps that make the fighters look higher poly than they are. I'd say if you think the fighters are high poly, Narol and I did a damn good job. ;)

That's the beauty of it. ;) Good maps, insightfully lit - and high-poly, here we come. [unintentional hijack]Wheee! (http://3dap.com/hlp/staff/setekh/techdemo17.04.2002AD.jpg)[/unintentional hijack]

Well, JPGed, did a lower compression on the rhinos, the weapons effects seemed to take it rather hard.

Bad rendermonkey. ;) You should be doing that with Exposition ships. ;)
-
Narol, believe me - they look fine. :)

You have no idea how much I'm itching to get back into rendering. ;) When I start up again in November, I'll have entire fleets to play with - OTT, Reci, the new Inferno ships, Exposition, and that's in addition to all the old render ideas that I left hanging when I left the Array last year, such as the whole Ancients story arc I had planned... of course, no one knows about that yet. :D

not to mention a collaboration with a fellow artist;)

:D
Don't forget to give me ideas of what that battle will involve as soon as you can, so that I can start chewing over the concept of it in my mind. :)

Narol... I've light/bump mapped the kiev, and gave it some nav lights... I'll send you the thing once I get a chance... never got around to finishing the renders I started with it....
