Title: Fans you didn't know you had
Post by: karajorma on October 21, 2003, 02:34:57 pm
You may have noticed this elsewhere on HLP but there are quite a few fans of Inferno (and FS in general) over on Spacebattles (http://kier.3dfrontier.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56568&page=1&pp=40). Anyway there was a topic over the about Inferno and while I've been backing up your view of what could happen following FS2 (mainly cause it ties in with MG views in several places) but you might want to pimp some more and win some converts so I thought I'd mention it.

BTW Can beams pierce the Lucifers shields? Seems to be a major sticking point over there.

Yup, they can, and were probably able to at the time of the Capella incident too, because beams naturally penetrate shields when attacking fighters and bombers rather than damaging them.Inferno's Lucifers therefore may have no shields, since the power requirements for shielding a vessel of such magnitude can be much better applied to its many new juggernaught-class weapons. :)

And with the kind of armor the Gigas has, it doesn't really need shields. Just think of the pwer equirements for shielding a 22 km long vessel.......

My customised Lucifer doesn't have the shielding technology, so it doesn't matter anyway for Inferno :D

The Gigas now has limited shields, though the 11km Vinaashak is fully shielded...

not to mention the scans from A1 in "Playing Judas" would have been used to test beam effectiveness against Luci shields.

You (or SCP perhaps) could make a program extention so only beam cannons can hurt the Lucifer. This would certainly seem realistic (the vast energy levels of a beam and its longivity would be enough to overload the sheilding breifly and pierce the hull, while other weapons (like bombs and guns) would merely bounce off the defences

I've already said the Lucifer uses the power that used to go to its shields in its new weapons instead.
