Don't really know what to say...
-
hmmm.. well, it's hardly surprising, since THQ has their focus primarily on Consoles...
-
and because they get more money for devoloping games to consoles
-
fs3, for ps3

 PS3FS3 would be... strange. It'd be better than nothing, I think, but hey... I'll certainly be looking out for V's next release, whatever it is. :)

It's probably safe to say that Volitions PC days are essentially over. There was a dying hope I think when they switched to PS2 development but I think its over now.
-
Not that it's any great loss, after seeing the quality of their post-FS2 work.
-
or maybe they'll make it for PS3 and PC like they do sometimes.

I think FS2 will be designed for both PS3 and PC.
EDIT: Carl beat me to it.
-
or there will be no FS3
-
Am I the only one who read 'sold out' in this line?
[q]The initial work on the games (no specific titles were mentioned) will consist of detailed research into the general direction the games will take.[/q]Now I don't know if they mean game markets in general or what the PS3 will be able to do, but if it's the former, it sounds like THQ is basically doing 'pop games'.
Give me a game developed by people who really wanted to make it any day.
-
I can see it now -
1) Volition releses FS3 fo the PS3.
2) 95% of HLP users go out and buy the PS3.
3) 2 days later, Volition announces the FS3 port to the PC.

I'll wait for PS12 thank you very much
-
Are you implying that consoles become obsolete quickly?
-
I gave up on Volition a while ago. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't play a PS3FS3 (wishful thinking at best), a console controller isn't fit for freespace style games.
Consoles DO get obsolete quick, I can still play games from 1985 on my PC. I can't do that with a PS2.
-
I dunno. StarTrek: Invasion wasn't a half-bad space-sim.
Add a PS-mouse to the concoction and FS on a PS would probably be pretty good.
-
I guess the PS2 keyboard or some mouse thing could be used... it wouldn't feel too freespacey though, it'd be dumbed down.
-
For a console...oh yeah, thats for sure it would be. Although in a sense WCP was a bit dumbed down from previous versions and that game was really good gameplay wise.

Yeah, I kinda resent that... but I guess, they gotta make money. :sigh:
-
I think that since Volition has shown itself to be sucky, at best, with RPGs and Shooters, they should go back to what they do best: Space Sims (duh). However with the Freespace rights in legal-limbo-landâ„¢ (I know Interplay no longer has them, but who does?) I think they should make a non-FS related Space sim. For PC of course, a space sim on a console would be like blasphemy or something.
-
i think this is all an elaborate sceme to sell a couple hundred more playstation threes, because if FS3PS3 does happen, it's not like we have a choice.

yeah.. a space sim that would make you need to wear brown underpants as a requirment:p

Game companies are money making companys when they making it's because they get money
and some games making cost up to millions

It's not impossible to create an emulator running on a PS2. It's just not viable.

Alright, so a game costs the budget of a single episode of a TV show such as Enterprise. :p
Plus the cost is divided over the development cycle. (1-3 years)
-
game developing and marketing it's not cheap

you use a mouse ?
to play a space/ flight sim ?:wtf:
-
It is a feature for which FS was known and loved by some of the gamers.
-
never even tried it...

yes, but then again, the same applies to lots of products. It can cost millions to make a prototype for a children's toy. Assembly lines and mass manufaturing spreads that cost out for each one that's on the market. eveything is expensive.
-
You realize that THQ does not necessarily equal Volition? From the looks of it, they've all but shut [V] down.
-
not really:
Rainbow and Volition (both under the THQ umbrella) have begun working on future PS3 titles

That was the point I was trying to make, thanks for expanding on it :)

Although.... doesn't the PS2 pretty much have a PS1 emulator / mode on it anyways?

Uhh... yeah, OK, whatever you say...

If my PS2 wasn't subject to Electronics Boutique's two year warrant plan I'd have it chipped and be running a couple of those in a heartbeat.
Oh, and since the PS2 has USB, it's compatible with almost any HID-compilant game controller afaik so you're not just limited to keyboards and mice, USB joysticks should work just as well too.

wow, a console with a mouse and keyboard... why not call it a PC then? :wtf:
anyway, if there's to be an FS3 it'd better be for PC cause I will not waste money on a console.

........I meant, to do the load-outs and stuff with.

Umm, I've always used a mouse to fly missions with. I've tried a joystick a couple of times and I find that it's too unresponsive compared to a mouse with the sensitivity turned all the way up.

I hate joysticks. Not to mention I've never had the oppurtunity to use one either
