You might need to update your version of winrar.

...he said... gah. *smacks forehead*

You have to rename the file from launcher.zip to launcher.exe

Now run along and read...

vB doesn't allow us to upload executables, so FT uploaded the executable renamed as a zip file. All you need to do is rename it in Windows Explorer. Select the file, press F2, and replace the ".zip" with ".exe".

If you can't see the ".zip" in your normal explorer view, you'll need to enable visible file extensions. In XP, open up explorer, then click on the Tools menu > Folder Options > View > Advanced settings, and look underneath there. Then rename your file. :)

Right mouse click, go down the list to rename..

Edit: rename from the dosprompt will get rid of the zip extension.

Heh, that's cool. It's a pain not having file extensions sometimes, so I just keep them on by default.

from the dos prompt type:

ren whatever.exe.zip whatever.exe

whatever being the file name..

Edit: Renaming from windows 98 will still keep the double extension, that is if your using windows 98..

Hmmm... Does XP have a dos prompt? Thinking of getting a new pc sometime in the future and was wondering if they kept the dos prompt?

...bah.  Iprefer to leave them off until I need them, otherwise there's the risk of forgetting to replace it if you rename the file. So poo-poo to you. :p

while you guys are here...I have the sparky_hi_fs2.vp in the FS2 directory but the box in the video tab is greyed out...and the parameter -htl isn`t there...anything else I`m missing..?

Which box are you reffering to?

You probably have the standard FS2 exe selected. Change the exe selection and see if that helps.

box is hi res pack...I have fs2_open_3_5.exe...the launcher is 2.5 ver...I`ve put the -htl in the custom command line box...no probs and does seem to look better...

The high res pack is from the media VP, IIRC. It's the textures from FS1, not the 1024x768 standard FS2 game maps.

The 2.x versions were a bit buggy.
Download the latest from my sig.

ok...got the 3.3 version...got this error
Error: Unrecogzined command line parameter -pcx32
File:C:\fs2_open\fs2_open\code\Cmdline\cmdline.cpp
Line: 452

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
    kernel32.dll 77e7eb69()
------------------------------------------------------------------
and I get an errror for every box...

ya...the latest...seems the error is caused by a space in the command line between the .exe and the - ...!
the 2.5 was working fine, not all the command parameters though...got the 3.3 and it only works properly if no parameter boxes are ticked...and if they are you get error messages...but it will deploy by just clicking ok to all the messages...weird...:nervous:
...and what is freespace port 2.1...?
(heh, I was really happy `til I got this 3.3 launcher...I hate error messages...)

Thats the game reporting an error not the launcher, be sure you have an up to date game exe.

Without errors messages things would go wrong without explanation which I think would be far worse.

Actually I believe your game exe must be out of date because I changed the code to give a friendlier message a while ago.
