TECHNICALLY, FreeTerran, that one isn't a spider, its a pedipalp. But that's just being pedantic.

realy isn't it ? :sigh:
-
nope. Also known as a sunspider or (in this case) a whip scorpion. Pedipalps are characterized by having a pair of legs that are used exclusively for feeding purposes.

dont mean to be rude, but who the in the f**k cares? it looks like a spider
-
it's something to be squashed.
-
I the f**k care, Drew. I like the little arthropods. Lots of things LOOK like spiders, but aren't. If you don't, that's fine. You look like a moron. I did point out that it was pedantry in the first place, didn't I? Perhaps your short term memory is somehow flawed, or you didn't RTFT.

I prefer mines:
the eyes, man, the eyes :D ( note that spiders like that, there's dozens of them on my house outer walls during summers, they're something like 5mm long and jump very, very far when you touch them, funny little things )

mmm, spiders. I prefer scorpions, though. They have the fangs, as well as two big, nasty claws. Oh, and a poisonous stinger on the segmented tail, just for good measure. :drevil:

pedipalps 0wn j00.

Amphibious snakes. One bite and you're dead before you even notice it (the poison kills faster, then how the neurons transfer the info).
-
snakes and spiders kick ass... snakes eat rodents (goddamn rats) and spiders eat the insects that would otherwise try to bite me...

Black Widow?
My family has a slightly less potent breed of those in our shed, they're classified as Stiodota Nobilis (sp?).
And yes, before anyone bleats "but no black widows are in England". We got them classified by an expert in the field. So there :)

I was rather expecting a redback when you said 'any aussie...'
-
If they're poisonous, we've got 'em. Man, I had a close encounter with a white-tail when I was a little kid (about 7) - afterwards I went and looked up a guide to identify it, and saw all these photos of gangrened limbs from just a single bite. Damn nasty. :shaking:
-
Yep and we think that we are on the top of the food chain :D
Sure those buggers look creepy but some species are actually quite beautifull (and funny, referring to Nicos big-eyed-buddy ;) )

BTW is it just me or does that thing look like it should be eating orcs and hobbits, or perhaps a bus load of children?

I have half a dozen Huntsmans in my house at any given time. They're not very dangerous, it's just that the ones we have are huge... and they're scared of you, so they run around like crazy, which indeed will give you the heebie-jeebies well and truly... :D

Yep. Wear military-issue boots if within 100m radius. And they jump, too.
Bird spiders = :shaking:

Spiders that eat BIRDS?! o_o I'm officially scared. Screw the cinderblock. Get me an AK-47.
-
Yeep, and to think I wanted to go to Australia for a break some time! Scary stuff indeed!
-
Hehe, don't worry, they're really not that bad. Well, actually, they are, but in most places they are very uncommon. In 18 years of living here, I've only ever seen 4 full-grown Funnel Webs. I ran away before waiting for more to pop up. ;)
-
Can't imagine why! That said, Scorpions have thier place in th world and generally look far more fearsome.
Also, as far as snakes are concerned I nearly trod on an adder when I was younger (the only poisonous snake in England AFAIK) and when I say trod - I mean I noticed it when my foot was around 6 inches from its head which was poised and ready to attack.
I ran :)

Just leave 'em alone. No-one gets hurt, everyone's fine.
That's the finest solution to your vermin problems for these natural predators *you have no idea what it feels like to be biten by a dozen bedbugs-, for they are doing a great service to us.

It looks like one of those big fat cuddly tarantulas that got stepped on...
-
why waste your money with a bfgreen just get a standered bolt action rifle and shoot it of your walls and celings might bug the people above you though lol
-
I think covering the place in flypaper would be cheaper. Basic premise - flies get stuck on flypaper. Spider goes after flies. Spider gets stuck on flypaper. Either that or the spider just gets stuck anyway when it tries to run up a wall.
-
yeah then after awhile you have a nice large collection of spiders and flies and god knows what else covering your walls.
And have to end up burning it cause youwont go near it .... that gives me an idea :D

Hmm...quite true.
*decides to make a flamethrower out his de-oderant*
HAHAHA! Take that you spider!
*sprays the deoderant through the flame and voila! instant BBQed spider!*
-
:blah:
*Sets nuclear device off in thread*
You will not harm those spiders! They are harmless creatures unless you provoke them. I never understood why ppl are afraid of them... They are just like any other creature but just have a few legs more.
Spiders don't attack humans. We are a far too big a target for them. If they attack its out of self defense.
Now, stay away from my precious!!!
