Those crazy
britAussie (sorry) boffins. They have nothing to do but see how the Starship Enterprise fares at MACH 5 (http://www.physics.uq.edu.au/lp/lasdiag/enterp.shtml).
I figure since some of you are big Star Trek and/or FryingPansInSpace fans... ;)
-
That's kind of funny.
-
good thing the enterprise isn't made out of plastic like the model.
-
That was funny :)
-
and they didnt have an active deflector wich makes theyr test bull**** :p
-
LOL, that was a nice find. Now where that technical manual and my blueprints of the Enterprise D... hmm.. :eek2:
[ scary because it's true :D ]
Cheers!
-
In other news, in X-Plane I put my P-51 Mustang at 400'000 feet and waited... It actually survived the re-entry but smacked in to the ground at about mach 6
-
A P-51 wouldn't withstand Mach 1 and could NEVER reach 400,000 feet.

Thank you, Captain Obvious.

Do you do this stuff on purpose, Woolie?
-
Honestly, I think a good quarter of Woolie's posts came from someone else ;)
Or do you mean statements of the absurdly obvious... not that it matters :nervous:

That is not entirely accurate... It is unproven but highly suspected that the P-51 was the first aircraft to break the sound barrier. There are photos/videos of high-speed dives in WW-II in which shockwaves formed around the wings of P51's, and a couple of incidents that seem like sonic booms (though in a continental war, that isn't saying much). Trouble is, now that the record is important, all the P51s in the world are too valuable to risk in such a test.

not to mention the pilots.
edit: is there any article on that theory. it seems interesting
-
I honestly don't remember where I heard it... maybe Air&Space? That seems like a likely candidate, but I can't say for sure.

Nerds.
*mumbles something about getting a social life*

You gotta give us credit, we think of the best experiments. :D
[q]A piece of space junk shown at the bottom right impacted the Enterprise at high speeds ripping it to pieces. It was fun while it lasted![/q]
Heh, owned. ;)
-
Hull breach!
-
But the Enterprise isn't designed to enter an atmosphere??
But didn't it wind up in the Atmosphere in Tomorrow is Yesterday (I think that's what the ep's called) when it went back to 1969?
-
Geez, at that level the viewscreen must have been showing the bottom of the planet. (You've got to love old ST humor :D)
-
Sure, anything can go supersonic with enough power. Might disentegrate quite quickly, but thats a minor side effect.
I get to do computation fluid dynamics as part of my university course. Maybee i'll spend some computing time on the Enterprise :D
-
That friggin rules! I've got to get me one of those! :p

Pretty rich from someone who frequents a website dedicated to modding a dead game. ;)
Mr. Pot, let me introduce you my dear friend, Mr. Kettle. He's also black. You'll get along famously.

Okay, on life support, but until the source code was released it WAS a genuinely dead game. And besides, I was just pointing out Drew's hypocrisy.
