Yes, the latest reincarnation of the best CG workstation ever is out. And this time, Discreet claims to make a demo version available for download - in November. Hallelujah!

Hey, nice. This'll be worth me having a peek at it.
In November? That could be tomorrow. :D
-
Yeah, it's my birthday. Sort of...2nd November actually but we'll be celebrating it tomorrow.
-
Yeh ive got it, its pretty damm good.
-
Bleh Max 5 is fine. :p
-
Meh. I'll take LW8. :D
-
Actually, I've even tried LW but that endless row of buttons just doesen't make sense to me. Probably because I'm used to Max. Meh
-
i'll take hammer:nervous:
i would take LW8

If you don't like buttons, then how do you boot Truespace without having a fit?
I've always liked Lightwave, it seems pretty sensible to me, apart from some of the buttons aren't always where I would put them, but I always found Max and it's 'Menus within Menus with Menus' approach somewhat laborious :(
Flipside :D

Venom will tell you that you can customize the interface for Max to suit your tastes. I'll tell you the same thing for Lightwave. I've reorganized my buttons and my tabs so they work right for me.
What I'd really like is to have those tabs down the left side and have tabs for layers across the top. It doesn't make sense to me that the tabs for changing button groups spreads across the top of the workspace.
Now, what I could really kill for is to have Lightwave's Undo stack turned into something like Photoshops undo, or the Max modifier stack. I'd love to be able to browse back through a list of modifications and make changes to the order in which I did things, and have those changes cascade through all the subsequent modification actions.
:D

Heh, guess what I've got coming in the mail.
Free upgrades kick ass.
-
Ignore my whining, I'm just addicted to Max that's all ;)
-
LOL No probs :) I wish Lightwave didn't force you to bugger around when swapping from layer 10 to layer 11, I'll have to see if I can adjust matters to have, say, 20 layer tabs available at once :)
Flipside :D

Pfff. MAX peaked at R3. If R3 had had the little global-coords changer thing in the bottom bar it would've been perfect. Infact that's the only reason I use R4, so I can quickly clone and mirror objects then quickly switch them from a +ive axis to a -ive one.
-
That it did, more or less, but radiosity ain't bad to have around. Though I wish there were still third-party plugins coming out at the rate they used to.

*giggles at mental ray support*
3 years later than everyone else but anyhow...

R3 was the worst of the series. Full of bugs, no real upgrade, nothing.
Interesting versions were the 1 ( d'huh ), the 2.5, the 4.2 and the 5.1 . Dunno about the 6, but what I've seen looks cool.

/me liked 2.5

*[l]has[/l] haven't had it for about a week*
