Title: LM Model Release - GTT Naxos
Post by: Odyssey on November 02, 2003, 09:49:21 am
Since this may not be needed for Lightning Marshal, I've been allowed to release it to you guys.

The GTT Naxos exists as a replacement to the Argo transport, which was decided to be inadequate for the changing needs of the GTVA. The Naxos boasts a 33% speed increase over the Argo, and numerous enhancements designed to minimise the downtime so common with the Argo class. These enhancements include redundancy in engine control, and a new style of automated turrets that have self-contained power systems and exist fully outside the hull. This means that crew requirements are lower, leaving more internal cargo storage space, and that the turrets are able to be replaced in mere minutes in any drydock.

It's a fully completed model as of a rather long time ago, so here's a zip with everything you need, including a test mission. If you want to use the Naxos in any of your own missions/campaigns, then that's fine too - I'd like it if you dropped me a bell via PM sometime though so I know where it's going :)

~ Mesh, minor texturing, and POFing by me
~ Hull and LOD texturing by Stunaep

Enjoy!

Thanks!
It's the Argo's successor, yes. You can compare it to the Argo in the mission in the zip :)

I think this should go to the TV war project!

That's up to them, I suppose. They'd need to modify it from the Subach turrets though.

Uhh, I don't think so, personally, but it's not my call.

Each to their own :) What do you think should be improved?

I'd like to see this side by side with the Argo. Until then I really can't say much about it.

Remember: multiple camera angles are the best tool you have for showing off a model. At a minimum, a top, left and side view should be used.

It's all in the test mission, alongside an Argo. I intended the picture as a quick view to get people interested enough to download the zip.
But, if you want, I'll get some more pics with an Argo. Just after I finish texturing Raa's fighter thing-ummy.

I'm fine with that, but I'd really like it if you explained why :)

Test missions don't do me any good: I don't even have FS1/2 installed. I don't play the game, I just make ships for it. ;)

Oh. Okay.
Well, anyway, I'll have some previews up there by tomorrow, hopefully. Still finishing off Raa's fighter, it's a little bugger to texture.

Dangnit, forgot about this. Here, a couple more views and an Argo for good measure:

Not a bad start, but it's missing something. Something that I'm not sure of what it is.

Now that I've seen it from more angles, I don't like it.

There's stuff there (like the thorns on the side) that just don't make sense to me on a spacecraft.

I really don't like it compared to the Argo.  The asymmetrical, lots-of-dockpoints, broad (seemingly powerful) engine configuration setup of the Argo is classic of a sci-fi freighter (like the Millenium Falcon, for instance) whereas this thing looks like a banded tincan with a pair of converging practice targets on one side.  The dockpoint isn't even aligned remotely on-center with the ship.  It's a high-quality model, I just find its design a bit lacking.

The successor to the Argo should be in the T-V War? :blah:

I think she's alright, interesting choice of name. ;)
