I noticed this description for the Mentu:
The Mentu's 16 turrets include heavy beam cannons for duking it out with other warships, as well as AAA and flak turrets to fend off smaller craft. The GVC Somtus and the GVC Mycerinus recently demonstrated the strength of the Mentu against NTF forces in Epsilon Pegasi.
It says its got Heavy beams but it sure as hell doesn't. And none of the missions it appears in gives it big beams either. Typically weapons are taken away more than anything else. Maybe they were going to make it pretty good but then the Sobek came along and they thought "that's the coolest ship in the whole damn game, maybe we should tone down the Mentu to make the terran lovers feel good about themselves."

Whatever you say, man.

Yes.. i'm sure most people have noticed that. They most likely meant to give it SVas's since noone else uses them AFAIK, but probably took them out for play balancing or sommat.

The Mentu is a strange ship; it is the strongest of the GTVA cruisers (60k hitpoints) but has no anti-capital beams and its turrets have really crappy FOVs. I changed around some of these things for my own missions and it is actually quite powerful now though.

Put a SVas on the dorsal turret and another on the aft ventral turret and it becomes badass.

The Hatshepsut has an SVas for it's fourth turret - the one at the forward part of it's second hull.
Personally, I changed the firing anlges on the Mentu's two topside-forward turrets and dropped an SVas onto each. Nasty.

Then again the Aoelus class cruiser had 2 really crappy anti capital ship beam guns. So a choice between that or a couple more anti-fighter beams, I'd go for the fighter beams. Besides, it makes up for that with a lot of armor.
The firing arcs are bad, it still is all around a good ship. In my opinion anyway.

True, the Aeolus' cannons aren't that bad, they just have a really long fire wait. The SVas's fire wait is about half the time (20 compared to 45) so I'd say they wouldn't make a bad addition. Maybe a subclass of the Mentu with Foreward Flak turrets 6 + 7 swapped out for SVas would be alright. Though I don't agree with giving the turrets the SVas's instead. The only GTVA ships we see firing beams from turrets is the GTD Orion, everything else normally fires from the hex points.
And we do know that there is some variation in the various ship designs. The GTCv Hawkwood in SM1-08 has a pair of SGreens and three TerSlash instead of just four TerSlash.

Thinking of that, what's going on in the mission where we first encounter the Ravana? When the Actium and Lysander fire their slash beams, I always hear the Vasudan beam sound. Is my computer up the creek or are they using a different weapon?

Dunno. Are the beams TerSlash or LTerSlash?
