here, in Holland, there is a tradition that presents are shared on 5 December, packaged in a nice piece of construction work, and accompanied with a poem. it's called "Sinterklaas", and it seems to be somehow connected to Santa Claus.
now, the tradition is that everyone writes their name, plus their interests and a small wishlist, on a piece of paper, and throws that into a box, then random names are picked by each. the present is bought, the poem is written, and the package is made, all in secret. you don't let anyone know how you picked. you give the gifts by placing them all in the center of a room, one at a time. then, you again pull names, who can open his gift first, and that person has to read the poem, sometimes carrying instructions on how to open his package. and always containing a few jokes about the person who get's it.
now, the idea is to do the same on HLP. gifts and clever packaging is out of the question off course, but we could draw random persons, and try to construct a few funny verses about that one.
anyone up for this?

Here's a quick haiku I came up with:
DG has the flu
His head is full of green snot
It's most infectious
-
Flu is Spreading fast,
Dark_4ce had it for a week,
not fun when head hurts.
-
My arms and legs ache
I think I got it last week
On my paintball trip
-
Nothing on TV,
Coca-Cola has run out,
about to panic.
-
ok, the trick is to make up a joke about the person who you got in the random thingy, not to write about yourself. and Haiku's are one thing, a good poem, is another.
and to really get in the mood, we need a fireplace to pout our shoe's by, and we neet some "Pepernoten", and perhaps someone to bang on the door and run like hell.
twas fun, i was employed to do that a few times.

Knock Down Ginger is not something to be encouraged

Good God you men! Those aren't haikus! Sort yourselves out this instant or you're all on spud duty!
-
well, the whole point isn't haiku's, *tails of miserably*
you're not going to listen to me, are you?
-
LOL I wouldn't know a Haiku if it bit me to be honest, it's been 2 decades since I wrote one :)
Sorry kasperl, we are natural born winder-uppers :)
It's a good idea, but alas the possibilities of it turning into a flame war are quite high :(
Flipside :D

I just wanted to illustrate how much I'm not enjoying the flu, though staying home playing Warcraft beats going to work...
-
Your not poisoning me with your twisted dutch customs!
-
Writing a Haiku
five, seven, five sylables
must be funny too.
Ok. I'll stop...

Haiku is for who?
Haiku is for you silly
Haiku is through now

He's anything but holy :D He has 'Zwarte Pieten' as servants. Litterally translated that'd be 'Black Petes' :p
Zwarte Piet:

I think this would in certain people's eyes look like rascism :p
-
dude, so he employes those without much chance. in a few years, he will probab ly switch to marrocans or turks, he's a bit behind on his old age, who cares.
-
Well, it wasn't racist when the Goons did it...
Ned: Blackrod!
Blackrod: Yessir?!
And so forth
-
Indeed, there were endless jokes about Ray Ellington being a member of the Black Watch and so forth.
