Let it be known that this game rules all, or as my mate would say, rocks the body.
I... acquired it earlier today, and I've got reasonalby far. This doesn't bode well for the length of the game, but meh, I'm enjoying it. I don't want to reveal too much, but suffice to say that I'm holding Pegasus bridge.
In short, get this game, by means fair or foul. And yes, I do actually intend to buy it.
-
I was also going to make a post about this phenomenal game. It's jaw dropping in places despite not being the most advanced graphically and technologically. Relentless pace and brilliant scripting, it is short however, just means I want to play it through again though.
-
Yeah. I got through it. Man what a game. Its intense! Ans what I love is the music! Especially at the Pegasus Bridge and then and the run of Stalingrad. Such sad music! It was like "Damn, no more hope. I'll just go out in a blaze of glory then... YAAAARGH! *Thump thump thump* ...Gurgle..." I showed my friends the scene at stalingrad and they were almost cringing when people were getting shot up. ITs a good game. Rather short. And also the fact that you cant open doors, really does scream out a bit too much linearity.
-
Crackin', innit? Got it yesterday, played it for a bout 4/5 hours. Spent ages finding a wee independent games shop (next to central station in Glasgow for the few people near there) which sells games the Wed before the release date, and for cheaper than RRP too.......
I'm on the truck level (after the dam), which is hard as nails but fun with it. Every level so far kicks arse - even the on-rails ones with the car (which I had a slight worry about). Best game I've played on the PC all year, by a mile.
-
sounds good i must check this some time
-
Evans! Take out that tank to the south!
And so on.
-
is it like medal of honor?
-
I never played Medal of Honour, but I suppose it must be.
-
'cept 10 time more intense. Apparently (not played MoH).
-
It's by basically the same team as the one that made MOH:AA, they all jumped ship from EA (sensible in my opinion).
It's medal of honour with hundreds of men on screen and such an epic feel that even the most cynical of games players can't help but be in a fair bit of awe when watching it.
Such a gloriously noisy game, it's ****ing awesome with my badass sound setup turned full.
-
ARGH! I can't do the airfield escape mission.
Either I get killed by a Stuka while killing the men on the roof, or I get killed by the men on the roof while killing Stukas.
-
What difficulty you playing it on? I haven't got that far in it yet, too many ****ing friends and a bastard arse g/f who's being a pain the arse combined with the exceedingly difficult (for me at least) hardened (not even the highest level) mean i'm playing this game slowly.
Good though cause I'm not burning myself out on one game like I normally do as I'm playing this and Max Payne 2 at the same time.
-
It's on the second difficulty level, "Regular" is it? The one that'd be called normal under normal cirsumstances.
-
I'll have to see if I can get my hands on this myself, I completed HW2 in just under a week, and I need something else to play :)
Flipside :D
-
Ohh, yes, HW2. That's something to buy once I start my new job on Saturday. :D
-
Congrats! :D And it is well worth the purchase, but I played it like the original and hoarded my RU's at first, it made the later levels quite easy until about the last 3

It's very short, but superb quality so it's a fair trade off, plus you get a fair bit of multiplayer levels. Might give that a go after the single player is over.

Bit of a 'mare, innit? Took me ages today to to do it.
When you first get on the Flak gun, turn it onto the boxes directly in front (where it initially faces) - this blows them up and takes away the cover from the enemy soldiers. It also means you only have to angle slightly to get the Stukas taking off - and if you hit the furthest away Stuka, the nearer one often gets quickly cuaght in the line of fire.
When they actually dive bomb, (obviously) take them out ASAP. You should have a few seconds between waves (initially), where you can quickly turn the gun on the top of the building - don't worry about hitting anyone, just force their heads down. And bear in mind you can hold fire a wee bit longer than you might think. Obviously, keep your arse parked on the gun - it provides decent-ish cover from the building, though you'd be hard pressed to detect it.
Basically, it is backs againt the wall nuttiness. There's about 4 waves - the last one is about 6 c oming from the left and right. F***ing spectacular, though.
Oh, and the game is a bit short, seeing as I'm on the last level after 2 days. But it's quality, and soon they'll release the level editor.
-
I think I could really get into map making for this game. I used to tinker with worldcraft for half life, got reasonably decent with it (nothing releasable however) then scratched my HL disk and could never get aound to replacing it. Operation Flashpoint mission editor made for some fun multi player matches too.
-
I managed the Airfield one, and I'm now in Stalingrad, having jsut got through the sewers.
Christ, that first Stalingrad mission was harrowing.
For a game that's meant to be based around squad-based combat, though, there are a few too many missions where it's just you on your own against hoardes of Germans. It's a bit too RTCW at times, but a bloody great game nonetheless.
-
Well, if it had zombies, I'd have chucked it out :) I fecking hated RtCW for that...........actually, the Dam mission in particular reminded me of Goldeneye more than anything else. (which is good)
-
Hmm. I was also thinking about making some missions for this game. I've been reading Ambrose's (The guy who wrote Band of Brothers) books, D-Day, BoB, and Citizen Soldier and theres a variable treasure trove of REAL life mission Scenarios. Though I was extremely happy they used Pegasus Day in the game. That was cool. But all sorts of stuff from BoB that can be done as well! Attack on Foy, Carentan, the episode with Colin Hanks where they went across the river... Oh well.
-
I'd like to see a D-day landing mission... cos I never played the Omaha beach one in MoH. That, plus maybe some Desert Rat missions in Africa....
-
Hmmm... Omaha Beach could quite easily be done with this. But It'll essentially be the same. But cooler. And with the added delights of shell shock, it'll be more like SPR then ever before. But it would require QUITE a bit of scripting, like the stalingrad level. But what would make this game even better, is GIBS!!! Arms, legs and pieces of ass flying all over the place, with guts spewing out and people crying "Muh-muh-Muhmaaaa!! *gurgle*" as they try to collect their intestines and drag their legless torso's to the closest medic only to get a bullet thru their helmet at the last moment...
uuhm... :nervous:
Anyway, Gibs only when there would be grenades and mortar explosions though. not with bullets and stuff. Thats stupid. I'm happy with the red puffs of blood in the game, they're really cool. But just to have that guy infront of you blow up when a mortar hits and fall in a bloody mess just adds that bit of "HOLY SH*T!" And make you hide. I'm not saying its realistic, just more, hollywoody...
-
I think Gibs would look worse, actually. I think explosions tend to just blow bits in people, rather than blow them apart, so it looks off. A bit more blood - i.e. patches on clothes or realistic spatter - could be effective, but it's hardly necessary.
Think you could do Omaha with more people on the beach, basically - the CoD engine (I think) is better equipped for high peep numbers than the MoH one, I think because the renderer takes advantage of more modern T & L features.
-
I agree. And yeah, I didn't really mean blowing people apart into tiny bits, though that occasionally happened when the shell landed on the the guy, but I mean just when they're at close proximity to a blast, they do often get a limb or two blown off. And shrapnell wounds are a horror to behold. But, I agree on blood splotshes on clothes, or even blood stains on the floor and walls and when the body has fallen, oozing out.
When did they say they're releasing the editor?
-
Dunno. Tends to be a coupla weeks from release, though
-
I've just completed it, and I feel I must shout,
"For the Motherland!"
-
*Que the sad music.*
"AAAAAAAAAGH!!! Thump thump thump."
*Crashes to the ground holding a red flag.*
-
Level editor is out by Wed (19/11) - www.iwnation.com
