well do you? .... the other one looks kinda wierd no AA etc:p i could whip something nice up in LW tomorrow :)
-
i think we should stick to actual in-game screenshots.
-
Best way to show off what it can do...

second
but we need a better one than the one we have now.
-
1st: the 1024x768 SCP slash screen has a big green blob around the source text - a green blob that should be transparent (And is in 640x480)
second - I DESPISE THAT RAVANA SCREENSHOT! Get something cooler like the new mjolnir textured and shinemapped firing upon a shinemapped ship and get a planet in the background :P
-
i think its the best anyone do a render

You want fries with that?
(I'm on the job...)
-
Does anyone else get the problem of not seeing the splash screen? It goes straight to the pilot info screen. Sometimes it will show it, but for a split second before going into the pilot screen. Don't know if that's good or bad :\
-
AFAIK it only shows while the program is loading. The shorter it shows, the quicker the load time. :p So that's a good thing, but I'd have to get somebody who's looked at that part of the code to confirm this. Maybe adding a second or two delay might be good.
-
I just don't see it at all - although the screen does change resolution and "hang" at desktop for about 5 seconds, I imagine this is where the loading screen should be.
On another note, getting a good shot of a Mjolnir nailing a Ravana is harder than I thought - the damn thing keeps getting blown up before it gets a shot off... still working on that :)

first: the green blob is perfectly transparent here.
second: i agree the screenshot is crappy. Although i dont want to have a render there, a screenshot would show how much SCP has already done to make things look great.
How about a nice Screenie with smoothened nebulae in the background, the Ravana with the mjolnirs (good idea there), and of course, have an 32-bit version of it ;7
-
It'll take me some time to set the mission parameters.
In the mean time, remember Setekhs excellent "City In The Sky" render? Well... seems reality does immitate art ;)
-
OUCH! :eek2: :eek2: i'm speechless
-
What happened to the thread with the OverExposure effect? That thread had some REALLY jaw-dropping efects.
-
its a bit too red imho eeeh try make a sun whiteish blue and from back to front wiev orion heading to sun and a nice shine from the sidE ;)
-
I could whip that up in a bit - in the mean time, here's 10 images that came of my attempts to get some decent shots. It's about 1MB. An example shot will follow.
-
And the obligatory example ;)

Why not just make both ships invulnerable... they'd slug it out but neither would get killed so you'd have plenty of opertunities to get the best shot.
Later!
-
And remember to remove the HUD...
-
If people want to see what the engine can do, they can take three seconds and jump into a mission.
I say we use a render. Something classy and nice that looks like we're a professional group here.
-
But if we can get in-game shots that are almost as good as a render, why not?
-
Well, the sight of 2 glowmapped/shinemapped ships slugging it out in a Nebula is going to look far better with bump-mapped surfaces and volumetric nebulae, which are 'currently' and possibly permanently not available to the SCP.
Flipside :D
-
They're not even close to as good as a nice render, as good as FS2 Open is.
-
Exactly, SCP has to optimise, a decent renderer can spend as much time as it likes :)
Flipside :D
-
I think Thunder's shot as it is but with the ship showing the new engine glow effects and shinemaps would be perfect.
Then a wireframe of the Orion can be transposed. I can actually do up a final version of the splash screen that everyone should probably be happy with if that shot with the glow and shine added can be done.
-
we can do better than that tho methinks
-
The current splash screen is something I slapped together to show off the glowmap effects. It's pretty old...
Anyway, I think in-game effects should be used to show off the new features. Renders may look good, but they don't have the feeling of "...and those are just the in-game graphics!" :D
-
I guess it depends - any monkey can render a ship and slap some text on it. It may look better than a ship in game, but it won't show off what we've acomplished. Of course, it depends on the quality of shots used (I don't like the pack I posted in this thread) But ho hum...

Heheh... tears to my eyes, man. Great screenie, I'll slap her into the FSO gallery. :)

How do you do that :wtf:
-
shift+o i think
if its not that, then its either alt+o or ctrl+o
-
You can bind it to whatever you like (mine was unbound untill now)... it's at the bottom of the Misc controls config under "Toggle HUD".
-
Oh, and...
-
now get warp.pof so the warpin effect looks decent

for some reason that thing nearly crashed my system always a ship jumped in / out, so i kinda prefer the old one ;)
-
:wtf: when was this
-
And where can I get warp.pof?
-
In the media VP.
-
http://fs2source.warpcore.org/mediavps/ Right?
The link is offline...

with 3.5.5, checked now and it works, although it looks really terrible in full nebulas (you see ugly edges of the model), i'll try to get a screeny if you want.
-
The only issue I have w/ warp holes is that they don't seem to fit the ship that opened it. I don't know if it has to do w/ me playing the game w/ the fov at .35 or not, but last night I saw a Hecate go thru a warphole that a Fenris wouldn't even fit in.

this is the issue i have with it. :ick
-
Yeah. I've seen that too.

J3vr, that was a problem, but I think it was in later versions...what EXE version are you using? (Check the corner of the main screen)
Lightspeed, it looks like there's a problem with the alpha mapping (whatever it's called) - if that happens in both D3D and OGL, it's probably an issue with the wormhole texture.
-
it's a problem with alpha blending in nebula mode
-
whatever it is, it doesnt happen with the old warp effects.

Tooooo.....lazzzyyyyy.... ;)
Thanks though man - I'll need to spend some time getting to grips with the PHP interface and such - but I hope I can start doing some of my own some day...!
