Title: Congratulations are in order
Post by: Rictor on November 06, 2003, 07:18:24 pm
After a time of brief absence, I came back to HLP only to witness a freaking renaisance in the making. In the past 2-3 weeks, there has been so much progress made that I can hardly keep up.

Lightspeed's shine maps, the 32-bit colour capabilities, the new background rendering system, the new ship trails (slightly older, but cool nevertheless), Raven's models, Turnsky's Foxfire stuff and more stuff that I can't even remember.

When I look at stuff like Lightspeed's shine map thread, and see the Hecate and Haphaestus (sp?) looking like they've been pulled from the latest AAA game, it gives me hope for the future. I don't really think that I am fully expressing just how cool all this stuff is. We have advanced more in the past 2 months than n the past year.

Though I have mentioned the awesomeness in a few indivdual threads, I just thought that everyone who has contributed to this process should be congratulated - way to go guys.

I've also noticed a sudden influx of newbies in the last couple of weeks. Did someone link to HotU or something?

I dunno, but I notice the newbs too. Run away, before they start a Freespace 3 topic! :D
j/k ;)

Anyways, sorta-off-topic here, where can I find the new exe with the new background rendering?! I can't FIND IT! Argh! It's not in the thread, can someoen give me a direct link?

What can I say? We won't let FS2 die anytime soon! :D

Couldn't agree more, Rictor - it's been crazy these past few weeks (tell you what, it was a great time for me to come back :D). And, seriously guys, I want you to be as welcoming to the new members as you can - we have a lot more newbies coming through here than actually stay, and I'd sure as heck be intimidated a lot if everyone was unfriendly. Share the HLP love, people. :p ;)

well, speaking as one of these newbies, I kinda got here by downloading the HOTU version. I thought it lacked to much sounds etc., and my internet-search for upgrades led me here.
Think i'm gonna stick around for at least till the WC-campaign is finished:D

Heh, well, it's funny, but the problem is that some people might not take it as humour. ;)

Oh, and welcome to HLP to you too, Nemo.

:welcome:

Why, thank you :) (btw, its called Hatshepsut)

But yeah, FS2 has potential, lots of potential. The best part of the story: At least once a good game engine is in hands of people who really care

Well, the other problem with that link is that it's dark blue on a dark green background. I'm in a somewhat unique position with dodgy eyeballs, so I can't be sure, but does anyone else have problems reading it?

with a monitor that operates at approximately 10% of normal brightness at maximum settings, i can only agree to this (thank god that modern vid card drivers support boosting brightness and gamma, and thank god i'll have a new monitor by new-year) :)
