1. I take it there's not way to "build" a FULL version of FS2 by starting with Underdog's FS2 file? I thought, for example, that downloading "stu_fs2.vp from HLP and placing it in the FS2 main directory would give me voices (in the first training mission for starters). No such luck. What am I misunderstaning here?
2. I also assume there's is no way of using FS_open 3.5.5 and the Launcher because using Underdog's FS2 file does not make any entries in the registery?
3. Sheesh! What good is it trying to piece FS2 together if you can still only get half the game. Please, help me out here. I'm obviously missing something (At least I hope so).
4. And while I'm still in the mood for venting my frustrations - surely there's another FTP server with all the missing VP files etc. Getting onto the HLP server is next to impossible, and DL'ing ISO's from file sharing networks that serve up files at a whopping 8k/sec (on a good day) is a waist of time. Don't get me wrong here, everybody at HLP is really adding a lot of great stuff to FS2, but (legal issues aside) there's got to be an easier way to go about this.
O.K., I'm done.
Thanks,
Nebfire

Im assuming you have read this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,18454.0.html) :doubt:

I got the HotU version, and well, i pieced it together. I got the vps from Fractux's FTP server and i got FS_Open 3.5 working fine. Maybe you forgot to remove the placeholder 1kb voice files from the appropriate folders after inserting the vp.

I suspect that's the problem too.
FS2_Open should work fine with the HotU version. I've never heard anyone state anything different.
I understand that the current way of getting hold of FS2 is rather annoying but we're talking about 0.5Gig of additional files in addition to what is included in the HotU version so it's hardly surprising that there isn't anywhere else to get those files. Fractux is working on getting a more complete version which with any luck we'll be able to get GameSpy to put up on fileplanet. It will take a while before we can do this (if ever) so I'm sorry but for the moment you're stuck with what you already know about.

Where are your manners, guys? ;) Welcome to HLP, Nebfire. :)

Yes I had already followed that thread Drew, and it sounds like a real lifesaver. I hope all works well with Fractux's project. I'm assuming the HotU version is what I DL'ed from Underdog karajorma. I did try killing the sound files in the Data\Sound directory after copying in the VP files into FS2 main directory, but FS2 would only CTD DeepSpace9er. I guess I'll wait until I can get all of the VP files first.
And Hey, thanks for the friendly welcome Setekh (especially after a long day/night of frustrations).
Thanks for the input guys,
I'll get it all together over this weekend.

HotU is indeed the Home of the Underdogs version. In my FAQ I reccommended getting hold of VPView and checking the filenames. Tedious but it would prevent any possibility of error. No doubt you took out the game sounds as well as the voice ones you wanted to replace.
They should be in different folders but never having actually used the HotU version I can only go on what people tell me.

data/sound isn't the voice dir. data/voice is, and subdirs need to be in place regardless. and wehn you get the vp's in one bu one, you could extract them to auto overwrite the right files. search for VPview.

You have to use VP view to extract the contents of the VPs (except for the hi res one). I had to piece my copy together too.
