The launcher now detects your joystick. I need people to see if this works OK. This really needs tested by as many people as possible. Simply load it up, select your joystick and check it works ingame.
http://mysite.freeserve.com/thomaswhittaker/c_code/freespace/Launcher.zip
Dont forget to post even if it works. Does anyone out there have two joysticks? That a configuration I would like to test.
This means that from now on you shouldnt have to use the old volition launcher first when you reinstall.
-
Heh, that means I have to dust off my old joystick. ;) Sure, I'll test this for you, RT.
-
I'm in Glasgow at the moment, but I'll test it tomorrow evening when I get home :)
Flipside :D
-
I'd help, but I'm a keyboard jockey.
-
Test 'no joystick then', I didnt have time to do that myself, I just assumed it doesnt cause problems (always a mistake).
Theres always a was to test.
-
Hey RT, iv been using my joy(pad) on all the old builds and it works just fine. Fs2 always detects it...
-
Thanks guys, Drew, have you checked it works OK in game?

for a while now RT ;P
works like a charm m8
-
I mean does it work with the launcher change.
-
I think what RT needs is for people to set up their joystick using the new launcher (I think till now FS2 has used the details set up by the old [v] launcher for your joystick settings) and see if it works as well.
Flipside :D
-
Well I used the launcher and my joystick appeared in the Joystick tab. What else needs doing?
-
Joystick appeared right away and I was off playing.

Just run the game and make sure the joypad works.
I've only changed the code in the launcher and I'm 99.99% sure its bug free. However if for some reason it worked on my system but not others then I would quickly become very unpopular so thats why I'm so keen to give it a good testing.
-
No joystick option works correctly. :)
-
Ok, just got in.....
Identifies Joystick correctly......
Calibrate button works.....
Have selected no joystick and applied (to clear old registry entries) then reselected my joystick and applied and am about to run the game........
Works like a dream RT! :D
Flipside :D
Edit : Trying it on Force0 option....
Yep, that 100% for me :)
Joystick : Saitek Cyborg 3D Rumble Force.

Tested and working fine. Only issue is I'm getting no forcefeedback in game. I couldn't tell you whether this is a fault of the launcher or of FS Open, I have half a mind that my force-feedback hasn't been working in all the time I've been using FSSCP stuff, but I haven't paid much attention to playing the game, but more getting various 32bit textures and HW T&L running contently. I'll do some prodding and get back to you on this one.
The registry entries seem to be present anyway, and the joystick does work as far as all the buttons and axis movements are concerned:
Joystick: Logitech Wingman Force USB (Latest WinXP drivers installed)

Have you checked to see if any other games work with FF? I'm not trying to be patronising, it's simply that I used to have one of these things, and theres a little switch on the bottom that can get thrown and it disable the FF :)
Flipside :D
-
The launcher simply changes a value in the registry for this.
If FF doesnt work, its not a launcher problem.
However it would still be a bug, definately report it fully if FF works in retail FS2.

Not with this model there isn't. It has a light sensor in the handle, so if you take your hand away it won't FF, But I know FF works in other games and in Retail FS2, as long as I'm gripping the handle.
-
Could you put that into bugzilla for us please?
Give as much info as you can.
If its never worked in fs2_open thats an important thing to mention.

I'm not sure, I'll make a point of testing the 3.5.5 release I have, since I was using the most recent _t version when I noticed there was no FF. I've never used a version previous to 3.5.5 though.
(Edit: Ok, stock 3.5.5 isn't giving Force Feedback either)
(Edit2: Posted on Bugzilla http://fs2source.warpcore.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=124 )
(Edit3: Just to make me look like a dumb idiot, Force Feedback came alive again. The only change I've made is to reduce the center spring strength (The joystick seems to fight itself and starts shaking when center spring is too high), and now FSSCP seems to do FF perfectly. Oddly FS2 1.20 was still force feedbacking regardless.. I've added a note to the bugzillla entry, saying that reducing center spring seemed to bring FSSCP back to life, so maybe this can be ignored unless others have a similar problem, I do apologise)
-
It correctly detected that I have no joystick.
-
marajin, its still a bug, just one you can work around.
I dont have a FF so its difficult to work on this.
I will try and bring it to the attension of other coders.
-
btw, i cant enable -32bit in the latest build; and its not a check box anymore in this launcher
EDIT: also Fs2 has always had some wird things goin on with force feedback... if Fs2 minimizes at any time or the player tries to swich to another window FF stops responding.
Iv had a little problem with the new builds cuz ill start FSO and if i hit the mouse it minimize and force to the desktop...so ill have to alt-tab it to get it back. byt that time FF is alrady not responding.................
-
There's a blank text box. just add -32bit in there and it'll treat it as a "custom" flag and add it anyway :)
-
maybe when we swiched to DX8 the effect got scaled down somehow, never even looked into the input code so I wouldn't know

Actually, for some reason, the latest build (the one without a letter extension) won't recognize the -32bit flag. It says its an unrecognized tag. Has the -t32 flag made this redundant, or has it been enabled by default in this version?
Later!
-
Strange... I'm using the latest _t build that I'm aware of. Mine accepted -32bit, although I did have to get the launcher to add it as a custom flag
-
latest build (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/blackwater/fs2_open.zip)
-32bit was removed becase it did aparently nothing
-
OOo! New build! I'll have to check whether it fixes the show stopper in the FSPort missions..oh wait I change.. >.< I now have to replay the missions up to that cause I changed back to the FS2 campaign... Well I'll shout if it still borks horribly :>
-
As far as I know the input code hasnt been touched.
I only upgraded D3D and added DShow
-
It works well with my Microsoft Sidewinder joystick. Picked up all three axises (Axi? Axus?)
-

No worries, I don't think it's anything to do with Input that is breaking the FSPort mission. It's a Crash-To-Desktop
-
Does that build bobbou posted have the code that randomtiger fixed for the movies playing?
-
JTK-1701-E: Picked up all three axises (Axi? Axus?)
Axes.
-
Joystick worked fine.

I think we can unstick this now
-
Okay, done. Tested this thing with every joystick in my house (of which there are 5). Worked like a dream - nice one, RT.
Aaaaand... unstuck.
-
When I first tried this version of the Launcher, it worked fine and FF was functioning, but I think it was taking data from the earlier version of the Launcher I was using, or possibly from the Volition launcher, because I recently had a failure in my primary hard drive and lost a lot of stuff. I reinstalled FS on my newer backup drive and installed all the Open stuff I had been using. Now, unfortunately, FF won't work under Open. I haven't had the time to test it out under retail, but as soon as I start Open under the new launcher, FF goes dead. I may remove it and try an earlier version, or run Retail a bit before doing anything else. I'll keep you posted.
Later!
[Edit]
Never mind... I'd just forgot to activate the centre spring in the stick profiler. My mistake.
Later!
